So here's my big problem, I'll get into this alot, I guess we all do, is there a "correct" way to play this hand, or do you have to try to get a read and go with it...

Thanks!!

hands like this is where you need to play your opp and what kind of hand(s) he would be oping you with.

If it's a tight player, I might lay it down, if it's something other than a tight player, proceed with the hand as if you have the best of it.

I'm cool with the pre-flop and also with the flop call because you could easily put your guy on mid pocket pair like 88 99 who is figuring that Q didn't help anyone and is trying to take it down right there. The turn is where my stomach begins to, well, turn. You bet out two dollars, I guess I am ok with this, but he could easily have 66, and a lot of times I put him on QJ or QT. But what I do know is that you definitely don't call his over the top pop of $5. That's a losing call. And if that call is bad, the river call is horrible. You're lucky he was a donk. I would rather see that aggression leading out on the flop, rather than calling bets with a hand that are most times, in this situation, way behind.

I used to have a hard time getting away from hands like these, but remember your opponent here could have easily had Q with a higher kicker here. So on the river youre in a $17 pot with one pair and a not so good kicker, all you can hope for is your opponent was bluffing or missed a draw. That doesn't mean you shouldn't play your hand since you probably have the best hand but if someone is playing back at you then just let it go.

Why didn't you lead out on the flop here for $1.50 or so? You OOP to two limpers that could have who knows what. I think check calling is a mistake that leads you down a bumpy path from the get go. Sure you might wind up winning the pot early, but Q9 is garbage so I'm happy with taking the pot now. And even if he did call a flop bet, I'd fire a second bullet on the turn and re-evaluate.

In addition to what JD offers, you need to understand that anything less than flopping 2 pair, and check/calling is a form of slow play. Too often slow play is a form of slow agonizing death. Seldom recommended for TPPK.

Take these hands down on the flop, don't let a draw develop that didn't need to cause you concern. The most correct action at this hand was villains big raise at the turn. He's got more outs than the Coliseum has exits!;)

Though you prevailed here, your call, unless you know it was player based, is questionable.

THANKS!!

This is why i joined this forum. I'm at a few others, and didnt get this much feedback, or some good ideas.

Thanks to everyone it really helps because as I said, this sit happens every now and then, and its almost like I dont what the game is...lol...I'll try JD's way from now, re-eval on the turn and go from there...the turn call was rough, and im ashamed to say, the river call was all emotion, horrible call, and I lucked up and caught him, I wish i could say i read him weak, but its not so...lol...

Anyways, thanks again everyone and good luck out there!!!!

Tygan!
