Losing a full house to a better full house

This is a game where I lost to a full house. I put this guy playing pretty tight. I had been going all-in with very strong hands like 5x in a row but never got called. I figured eventually someone would call me thinking I was bluffing.. unfortunately he had me beat. I put this guy on a big king AK, KQ, KJ, or an ace. Is there anyway I could have avoided this?

Again you have to put it in context: I went all in like 5x out of the last 5 hands because I had hit trips or better. So, if I had raised or did anything else. I mean, he'd probably just about call with anything which was what I was wanting. I would normally not go all in to get the second caller behind me. He would have called with any King the way I was playing and probably any other pair. Yes I could have folded pre-flop but then if I had raised with AK in this situation I would be beat.

Yes I make most of my money from suited cards. Usually aces.. I like to chase against bigger made hands because most people at this level wont lay down big pocket pair.

There's always a context and a reason why someone wanted to make a bad attempt at lagging and lost. It's stilll bad.

Yeah... simple, fold crap hands like K5 preflop. And why would "hitting big 5x in a row" before this hand somehow justify playing a bad hand aggressively? If *anything* it should make you want to fold it as people tend to play back at someone playing very aggressively far quicker than someone who isn't, and you don't want someone playing back at you when you hold such a weak hand do you?


I sincerely mean this in the nicest possible way, but you need an ego check pretty bad. Having an ego in this game is extremely detrimental to doing well. Just about every poker player is not as good as they think they are (myself included), and right now you are not making very good decisions or plays (this thread and the several others you have posted). Learning to realize that you really aren't all that good and have alot to learn is one of the first steps to significant improvement.

I honestly can't tell from your comments if you are wanting people to comment on how to play it better or to tell you you are awesome and it was just bad luck as you are pretty defensive to criticism. Anyone posting criticism in this thread for the most part (including what I'm saying here) isn't doing it to rag on you but to help you try and improve...that's why we read these threads and reply to them in the first place!


My advice to you would be to go pick up a decent poker book and read it thoroughly, there are several good ones out there. It will help you immensely. And when people post in reply here they really are trying to help you! There's lots of good people and good info on these forums, hopefully you will take advantage of it and get better!

I guess you guys are right because this same type of situation game up again and I lost. The thing is in micro-limits, I guess what I'm trying to say is a lot of time there are really big bluffers and they don't have to have anything at all. So, I know it was not that strong of a hand but there are several factors to consider too: playing micro, playing 6 player...

I will say this if I play a weak king from the button or ace then I'll win about 60% of the pots. So why not play them? I made the mistake of getting too much money involved.

I want to learn but I've also seen the type of game play people recommend fail. If someone is playing very TAG at 6 player they will get no action on many tables.

Every table is different. Some table are full of fish and will give action but others are full of good players at this level. I guess my style of play is I don't want to overplay my hole cards. If I know I'm playing weak then I can get away from it but when I pick up a big hand then its hard to lay down.

Think about this, a guy picks up pocket kings, queens, or tens. Another guy guy is playing rag ace and hits his ace: he's winning and the pocket pair is losing.

For every big hand you win A-rag vs QQ like this you will lose many more to the better ace.



Also and someone else touched on this... you are playing very low limits that often are wild and crazy and not much better than play money tables (20 cents? so what if it's 10 times the blind it's still only 20 cents!)

That doesn't mean you should play badly..establish good habits at the start so you don't have to unlearn bad habits when you move to tougher limits where there is better play overall.
