I may have been wrong to be in the hand to begin with but oh well, help me out. Live $2-$5 game last night. The table had been open for roughly 2 hours and it was lock down tight, very few preflop raises. Lots of weak players that are regulars, and NOBODY bought in for the full amount. Everyone only has $200 or less. I am in seat 10 and new guy (that just won the nightly tournament for $1k) in the 9 seat has played about 3 orbits. He has been picking up good hands and has been raising them to $15 each time. I've seen him show down AK twice, AQ, KK and JJ, and he has taken standard, transparent lines with them each time. He won every hand. The other hands he played he limped and when he missed he folded and when he hit a piece of the flop he called. Very standard imo. He is the only one at the table with a decent stack of about $320(I have him covered) and then this hand happens. He limps UTG+1 and I raise to $20 to isolate with 6d7d. All folds to him and he calls. Flop 8h9s10s. He leads for $25. My action now is?? (We get to the turn, but I want to hear some analysis on my line until now. Turn action to come...)

Raise flop because every hand on the planet has some sort of draw.

Raise! I'm probably going to raise pretty big too. The only hand you're behind at this point is J,Q. If he happened to have limped with that you're screwed, but c9's right, he could now be on a straight draw or a flush draw. You're hand is pretty vulnerable, so you need to raise to protect it.

Raise flop, call a shove obv. Far too many turn cards can kill your action.

Raise to $125 or so, enough to shove him in with a significantly <pot size bet on the turn.

Obv a raise is in order. I raised to $85 cause anything more would have gotten the same effect from this donktard. Villain smooth calls and a 7c peels on turn. Villain shoves. Action? Obv fold, right?

If anything more would have gotten the same result, why aren't we doing just that? We know we're a favourite over his range, and if we think he'll call a bigger flop raise, then raise bigger.

As played it's an easy fold.

yeah i don't really get that. if we know villain is calling a shove with everything he's calling a $85 raise with then we may as well just shove the flop with glee.

as played fold because villain's range is basically AJ/JJ/bluff and you'll see the first two way more often.

If I shove won't he most likely fold anything but a made straight or a huge combo draw? I mean he has been showing down the goods for the most part and if he had some weak pair/str8 draw, JJ, 2pr or bottom set I dont want him to fold, and I believe he would be smart enough to fold those hands. I also didn't want to sweat 2 more streets if he did have a set or a huge combo draw and all I have is the donk end of the str8. I folded and said nice hand. Simultaneously I threw a mental temper tantrum cause I run epic bad and he was hit with the deck. I went home drank beer, the solution to all cold decks right?
