Bought in for $300 hovered between $250-350 for most of the session, couldn't connect with many flops. Starting to get annoyed at missing, tired, and contemplating going home I start to tilt a little.

9 handed table, all players involved stacks are at least $250.
Dealt 5d4d in MP. Utg+2 raises to $12, I call, player behind me calls and we take a 3 way flop.

FLOP: Js3s2d

Utg+2 bets $35, I call, player behind calls. My reads are Utg+2 AJ or overpair. Player behind me flush draw.

TURN: 9c

Utg+2 checks, I contemplate betting $100 thinking the flush draw can't call, and the AJ or overpair may put me on a set and fold. But instead I chicken out and check, player behind shoves $100, I still think he's on the draw thinking same way I am. Utg+2 calls reluctantly, I fold.

RIVER: Ac DAMNIT!!!!

Both players checks and UTG+2 scoops the $350 pot with KK and other player mucked.

I feel 100% I shove on the turn if the flop didn't have a flush draw out there taking 2 of my outs away. Not having the balls to semi bluff there made me a $110 loser for the day instead of a $250+ winner. Just annoying that I failed myself.

Fold preflop. 54s is crap from MP facing an early raise.

Not having the balls to semi-bluff saved you a lot of money in the long run. You weren't getting rid of UTG+2 - he was going to call anyway. So you would have paid 100$ hoping to spike one of 8 outs.
Also: what happens on the board after you make a correct fold in of no consequence. Hitting now doesn't mean you would hit always. Calling was -EV.

But fold preflop and save yourself even more money.

I contemplate betting $100 thinking the flush draw can't call, and the AJ or overpair may put me on a set and fold.

A set would normally raise the flop there. Besides, they probably couldn't lay down an overpair even if they suspected imo.

As others have said folding pre is best.

Dont worry fella, thats not so bad being cautious even when you have good chance to win those money on the table. I cant say you have no balls to play those hands, just cause in alot of other cases you can lose what you earn by the moment on the table. That means that if your river didnt came like it happened, you would had the right choice!
And I think that you said you have no balls it has to be inversed. Those like you,who know when to fold good highs and kickers are the ones with balls.
In my opinion its harder not to give your stack at high pair and kicker at the flop (like one of your examples), than to go all in and pray for good turn and river.
And for the end, i think being cautious is better than giving your stacks for free. ;)
