Full ring, 1/1 blinds live cash game. Stack sizes are $200-$350. Winning with 7 8 suited means everyone at the table has to pay you $5.

Hero (SB) is playing VPIP/PFR of 10/8

Button: Just joined the table and is giga tilted after running his chip stack up to $1500 from $200 and is now at less than $300.

Big blind: Aggressive and overcalls preflop when bored. Also overcalls/floats with any pair. Thinking player that has tried a few bluffs on me in the past.

Action:

Folds to Button who raises to 4, Hero has Js Jc and reraises to 12 on the SB. BB calls, BTN calls. All players have at least $200 behind.

Flop: Ah Qh 5s (Pot: $36)

Hero checks, other two players check.

Turn: Qc (Pot: $116)

Hero bets $15, BB raises to $40, BTN folds, Hero calls.

River: Ac (Pot: $116)

Hero checks, BB checks back and shows 10c 9s. Hero wins pot with J high.

I'm not sure how I played this pot, but it didn't seem optimal. Was my raise preflop too small, and should I have c-bet the flop? I was considering folding on the turn, but it was for an extra $25 into a pot of $91 and I still beat draws and smaller pocket pairs.

Any suggestions on my play would be greatly appreciated!

The 3-bet could be a bit bigger out of position, but its not the end of the world. Flop and turn are kind of the same in my opinion. Sure its cool, that they checked back, but its totally reasonable for them to check back QX and even some weak AX on the flop, so by no means does this mean, you are sure to have the best hand.

I guess, there is an argument for betting really small like 1/4 pot for very thin value, and you can do that on the flop or turn, its kind of the same. But with your bet sizing, I would just check the turn and hope, it checks through again. I am totally happy trying to get the JJ to a cheap showdown 3-ways on this board.

When you get raised on the turn, its a fold against a normal player, since this is surely one of the absolute worst made hands in your range. But this guy was obviously a play machine, and then it can be ok to become a bit of a calling station against him and end the madness. 98 offsuit is just crazy, and so is raising the turn without any kind of equity.
