Was just wondering if anyone had insight into why someone would limp shove a situation such as this? I'm guessing it's usually pretty strong, but so bizarre to me, I'm unsure how to react to it. What if it was a 3bet instead of a limp (maybe makes more sense)?

888 Poker - $0.05 NL - Holdem - 8 players

UTG: 111.6 BB (VPIP: 11.76, PFR: 9.41, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 85)

SB posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has J:club: J:diamond:

UTG calls 1 BB, UTG+1 calls 1 BB, Hero raises to 5 BB, fold, fold, fold, SB calls 4.6 BB, fold, UTG raises to 111.6 BB and is all-in, fold, fold, fold

UTG wins 17 BB

If they are first to act they might want to check and allow people in and the take the pot with a shove, meaning they dont have to make decisions later. My guess would be QQ/KK if hyper nit. include TT/JJ if moderate nit. Im excluding AA as they would not be scared of overcards so might limp raise pre.

Fish will do this sometimes because they think they can "trap" by limping then shoving on the raise because they hope you see the limp as weakness. I normally see it more in tournaments but either way definitely a fold without any reads.

This will usually be a monster or ak, of course there are randoms that will do it with anything.

Limp, big 3-bet is a classic rookie play. Its almost always is a big hand. Thank him for telling you, you;'re behind and fold.

I used to do this as a bluff fairly often. People assume limp/raises are the nuts.

Make notes and trap the fish. With Pocket Jacks I'd be sooooo tempted to call! Their VPIP is pretty low though even for only 85 hands.

I've seen more bluffs in a spot like this than AA.
Even more KK/QQ/AK than AA.

But mostly it's ATC.
