Not really.. I wouldnt really count the pair of 5's as a hand worth playing/ protecting.

I limed in preflop as I was in SB so it was a cheap flop.. hoping to catch a flush draw or top pair.

But when I saw 2 aces.. I figured that the table would fold to me due to my image or play / raise if someone actually had aces.

So the bluff was representing trip aces (with 2 on the board) when I had only a pair of 5's

Bluffing with the best hand. If you think small pair is good then flop is when to bet, its cheap and it drives overcards out.

you werent really representing trip aces in particular though, you were just betting to say you have a legitamate hand, which you did, and that people would also need a hand to call you.

Your hand wasn't a bluff since a bluff is intended to get better hands to fold, I don't think you got any better hands to fold here.

It's a protection bet more than anything.

I don't really know what you want analyzed, you played the hand standardly

Spot on. Betting out here is not a bluff. This bet should be designed to protect your hand from any over cards that can come out to beat your pair, which is quite a few. You may get weak/tight players to fold medium pairs and little broadway hands(QJ, QT, JT etc) that would be content to check to the turn for a free card.

If you are willing to call a bet on this flop, then it is much more desirable to be the one betting.

I think it's perfectly legitimate to call this a bluff, despite the very real possibility that he's betting with the best hand. I could define a bluff as a bet that hopes everyone else will fold. Furthermore, someone with a hand like QJ is getting close to odds to draw to overcard outs vs. a 5. They may not have the "best" hand, but they have a good enough hand to continue.

The way to consider it NOT a bluff is the hope that it gets called by a worse 5 who then checks it down after we check the turn and river. But that's a bit of a longshot.

So for all intents and purposes, this is a bluff. And a good time for it, too. Especially given that you want to bet these flops with weak hands so that you don't seem suspicious when you bet them with A-5 as well.
