First hand: Why are you bettting so big PF? Generally 3-4XBB is fine for a raise. It generally gets the job done and saves you money for those times you can get away from a sticky situation because you haven't committed yourself to the pot. In your hand though you're probably calling this every time. You have 2 Ace outs and the flush draw, so a call is good. Unlucky, move on.

Second hand: Bad beat. Move on.

You're also really lucky that these hands have been against short stacks, each of these hands could easily cost you a buy-in.

Ok I understand your advice on raising so big preflop, but at these lower limit tables seems everyone calls anything less and I get them cracked way too much...so I should just accept that and take my chances with 5 or so in the pot with me?

It's been a while since I played at these levels. I guess you want to thin the field but at the same time you do want some callers because you hold the best hand. Reads will help you out as to what some of your opponents are holding, the other thing is to interpret flop textures and assess the best move post flop.

The other thing to remember (not specifically about the hands you've posted) is that AA/KK/QQ etc.. is only one pair, so if most of the pots are multi-way adjust your style to best take advantage of that.

Hope this is helpfull.

I've played those dime tables at Absolute Poker skins before and I know they can be brutal. At those tables, raising 12x BB with AA is actually not too bad of a play. Though I usually make it .50-.70 there (elsewhere, 3-4x BB is a better play). I think you played both hands just fine.

The 1st hand was just a bad beat. The 2nd hand was a bad beat against a chaser with a very short stack and not much to lose.

First hand, indeed a large raise, but if someone calls with a 3$ stack, the flop doesn't matter, except for maybe KQJs and your ace if of another suit. Youre just commited to this pot.

Second hand, a set on that board is the nuts on 10NL, always stack off here. You got the best hand when all the money went in, so always be happy with that!

You didnt play them bad - I would have done pretty much the same thing, although not quite the big raise on the first as others have suggested. You got beaten with good hands. Statistically it happens x% of the time and theres not a lot you can do about it except shrug and silently shake your fist at the poker gods.
