last hand of the night...

last hand from last night.
$2/$3, $100 buy in NLHE. I'm SB with 130, CO is LAG with 100 (he just re-bought in), Button is a good TAG, but I've caught her bluffing once (we'd probably played around 120 hands together on this table), with around 350. It's been a rough night for me, and it may have been showing (11 of my 14 showdowns have been 2nd best hands - all of them better better than TPTK). As for the check on the flop - I ALWAYS check blind on the flop when I have the option in a live game. I do lose a chance to value bet on monster hands occasionally, and sometimes have my good hand broken by a free turn, but giving everyone else a chance to bet first before I make a decision gives me half the advantages of the button.

CO checks, button bets $15. I'm thinking she was bluffing with the button but could have a bigger K- I call. CO folds.

turn [6h] - no help, but now I have a FD
I check, button checks.

$50 pot
river[Jc]. That works for me...
I bet $30.
Button raises to $60 - huh?
I decide she's maybe got AJ or J9, and push (around $110 total)
she insta-calls and flips over...

I dont understand how a set can check that turn, so I put her on J9.

I don't get the push after she min-raises on the river. 80% of what minraises and calls your push has you beat, so it seems to me you're giving away money. It is possible she has something like K9 maaaybe J9, but its pretty unlikely and it's one of the few hands you beat that might even think about raising the river. PLUS, button is TAG... I doubt she's calling the preflop minraise with K9 or J9. She's telling you she's got either a straight or a set, and I wouldn't be inclined to doubt her so much that I push here. Just call

She may have been running the bluff on a q 10 or jj but i dont reraise here you have to just call

JJ is possible. On the flop only one over card and she bets and you call. The turn is no help so since you called she prob puts you on a king now. The river is bingo for the set. I agree 99 prob would not have checked the turn with all the draws out, so JJ makes sense. Another KJ or J9 also fits the betting but almost nothing else does (assuming a decent player).

So it's about 50/50 I think that you are beat.

and the winner is Combuboom. I was fairly certain she had hit two pair, which is why I pushed. K9 doesn't make a whole lot of sense (why check the turn with possible FD out there), KJ might fold to me (not likely, but a chance), so I figured J9 - she bet the button with 2nd pair, got called, and shut down until her 2nd pair hit.

And yes, I was wrong. She flips Qs 10s for a straight. I looked back and realized her betting pattern also fit this hand and kicked myself for not seeing it. Chalk up one more 2nd best hand, but at least I could sleep knowing this one was my fault for not betting the turn...

Only if I was playing would she have been holding QT Seems you hit my river luck.

she played it too well. I honestly can't say she made any mistakes at all, I just got completely the wrong read on her. I don't know why I didn't even consider the straight (because it fits her play so well), but for some reason I mentally discarded it even though I saw the possibility out there.

by your description of her I actually did also. She played it pretty much textbook.

Just call on the river and be thankful she didn't raise more... what's calling a push that you beat? J9 seems pretty remote. AA, AK and KQ very likely bet the Turn, and don't raise the river.

The problem really was that I didn't put her on a bigger hand, I put her on the snd best - J( was what I was thinking - and I was pushing because I thought she would call with that hand, so I would increase my winnings.

Yeah, I got played.

River is closer to a fold than a raise. You prob have to call just as mayyyyybe she's bad enough to value raise J9 there, but who knows. I think sets/ and QT make up most her range for sure.

Her play was pretty good until the river, but I don't really like the size of her raise to be honest, she needed to go bigger.

As for your play, your preflop/flop/turn play is good (turn should NEVER be a lead, and thinking so is just being results orientated).
