I'm like %95 sure he's got a middle pair; he rarely enters a pot without a premium hand or a solid pair and his smooth call preflop + raise on the flop pretty much tells me he's either hit his set or he's got 99-JJ.

How can we stack this guy?

Villain is 13/9/18 and I'm 11.5/7/1.9.

Chuck on $25 NL there is rarely any need to be tricky. I come over the top here, without a doubt putting him to the tricky decision not you. If you call here and a 9-A arrives on the turn its you that has the tricky decision to make.

Who's zooming who? I think your original instincts were correct. What hands would be worth an IP cold call PF and a reraise OF? I doubt he's got JJ-QQ, maybe TT. But I would have reraised PF with any of these holdings. 99 or AA also fit well; KK too, but unlikely. Would he make a 4x bb call with Axs? His stats suggest he would not. A set is the most likely candidate. The range of raising hands that can beat you is too great. I regretably let this one go.

JJ/TT/99/A8s/flush draw. Yes, the possibility that he hit his set is a real one, but putting an online player on a flopped set because they raised your flop bet is going a bit overboard, IMO. I think letting this go is really weak, specifically in a cash game where we're looking to make the +EV decision every time; not like a tournament where surviving often takes precedence. If he hit his set, good for him. I come over the top now, and hard. if he has JJ-99 or A8 (assuming he's typical) we probably get all his chips this way, whereas a turn can bring tons of cards that would shut these hands down.

Fair enough; the thing with this hand was that this player was definitely the tightest at the table. In retrospect I think that reraising just screams to him that I have him beat, and he'll fold. But then again I hate giving free/cheap cards, so I guess just keeping it simple is the best option.

So considering his range, in your opinion, is {99-AA}, you fold this flop?

I really gotta disagree with you here...folding to this raise is terribly weak-tight...you really fold this??

Agree with pretty much everything you say, combu; the reason I brought up waiting for the turn is so that I could maybe lure him into thinking his TT or whatever is good, but there are just too many cards the turn brings that kill any action I'd be getting on the flop.

I'm guessing either A8 figuring he's beat, or a strong fold with 99 or TT. This guy was really tight. Then again, so was I which was probably why he figured he was behind here.

No, 99 is the only hand in his range that you beat. TT-QQ would have (should have) reraised PF. I dismissed KK just because it was so unlikely given that you own the other 2. I also ruled out SC's based on the stats you provided for him. Given that you showed strength both PF and on the flop and a tight player reraised you, I'm very surprised he didn't have the set. My bet is 99.
