Regarding a medium pocket pair. All I want to know is, should I be raising this pre flop or limping in to see it cheap? I played the hand fine the rest of the way, just wondering if I should pump it or just limp in?

I Find this to be one of those hands that depends on the your image of the other players. Do u have loose agressives ahead who will raise for u if u limp. that type of stuff. So my answer is depends on the situation.

I'm generally a fan of pumping it, unless the table is loose. It sets you up for a c-bet, and makes things easier to get your stack in when you hit a set.

Sorry, forgot to include my table image. I am playing very tight and the rest of the table is neither loose nor tight. Just, average.

Ahhhh, the ol' pimp it or limp it conundrum.:D

With the descriptions you gave, and the stack sizes showing, I'd pimp this hand 3x as if...... If you get resistance, be prepared to say nein! nein! And flee.

so if you limp and someone ahead of you raises like you "wanted" are you going to a) reraise, completely overrepresenting your hand and basically making it a bluff, or b) just call and play the rest of the hand with absolutely NO idea of their range, whereas since you limp/called they have a good idea of your range (hint: mostly small-medium pairs and suited connectors)

open this with a raise practically ALWAYS. open limping is troublesome like i said because you can't give aggressive players a range at all when they raise, and you can't give other players a range when they just call. whereas if you raise yourself, if an opponent has a hand they want to play, they must choose to either call that larger sized bet or to re-raise. either action will give you a much better idea of their range of hands which lets you play postflop (or fold preflop and escapetrouble) 10x better

preflop you should play to get value and to define your opponents' ranges for the rest of the hand. open raising with the likely best hand accomplishes both

Totally agree, especially with the 'nein, nein' caveat. Don't get married to them. A showdown divorce could be very costly.
