Playin 6 handed $100 NL at Party. On the Button, everybody folds around to me with 4-6os.

Raised to $4 to steal the blinds as BB is tight/weak. SB folds and BB calls...damn!

Flop comes 57Q. BB bets $5, I raise $5 he calls. Turn comes 3. BB bets $20, I call. River comes K. BB bets, I raise, BB Re-raises, I reraise $4 from all-in. BB calls and is horrified to see my 7 high straight beat his trip cowboys.

$212 pot.

I catch a tsunami of abuse for ever after (then take more pots away from him). 20 minutes later he finally realises he was betting into the nuts and didn't even consider the possibility.

Moral of the story?....take note of who you are playing against and their betting style and don't forget to read the board!

That is quite apart from not coming over the top with KK (classic tight/weak play) but that is another story.

And it doesn't hurt to get lucky once in a while!

That is was some lucky cards to have and raising on preflop with those cards. WOW!

One time I was playing on Paradise and got dealt pocket Jacks and tried to slow play this hand, some how this didn't work and that stung me hard. Someone to the left went all in on preflop and another guy on the other side called. What was I supposed to do other than call(even though I could of raise), so I called. The flop "J 2 2" and I was like, yes!!! Full house off the flop. I checked cause some how I knew I was gonna win this hand and it was already a big pot, the other guy bet really high and I sat there acting like i was buying for something else and so I called. The turn "4" that didn't help me out at all, it's not like I needed it. I checked again and he bet high again, but this time I raised him and he went all in and I called. First I was hoping he had that 2 so I could popped him and he did. We all showed our hands and the to left had pocket Queens, and the other guy had "A2" off suit. I was like yes I just won a big pot. The river, there was only one other card in the whole deck that can help the guy and with his luck he caught that card, yep that's what i'm saying he caught his "2". I'm sitting there like........................., he did not. I think he tripled up after that.
Moral of this story: "Luck is still around the corner and is ready to bite you in the butt."

I think you played your cards well. You were the first to act and since no one in front of you acted and you went to steal the blinds. Correct play. That you got called is something you have to be ready for. And you played well. You took a chance and won. If the flop came painted, I'm sure you would have folded. :)

just remember that isnt the usual outcome about 4 times out of 5 you are going to lose with those cards preflop, so to say you beat the odds is an understatement. Also if I have KK and you raise preflop you better be prepared to go all in right there and I don't think you would have called with that hand. So it was more than getting lucky, it was also weak play by your opponent.
