9 handed $50 NLHE
I'm UTG +1 with $50 and As Jh. UTG calls, I call, the button calls and the BB checks with everyone else folding. Flop comes Jc Ac 6h. BB bets 0.50, UTG raises to $2.00 and I call then the button and BB fold pot=$6.75. The turn is 6d and he bets $2.00 and I call. The river is the Jd and he bets $5.50, I raise to $15.00 and he goes all-in for another $9.80 and I call. He turns over 66 and takes down the pot. Should I have just called on the river?

seems like you should of just called being you lost but after all i would of bet just as you i can't lie i don't normally push but with my boat i just might of did the same.. so it was a good call just bad luck on the felt. quads are never expected but they do pop up like straight fushes as well those will sink a boat too.. it willl get better Good Luck

in your case, i probably would have made a medium sized pre-flop raise with AJ. this probably would have prevented people with a low pocket pair from staying in.

As I was reading the way the hand played out, i figured he had a set of 6's after the flop. well, either 66, or A6, but 66 was more likely since 2 aces were already out that you knew of.

on the other hand, you kind of got the shit end of luck. he was holding the only 2 cards that could beat you (other than AA, but obviously he wasn't holding that.)

so in hindsight, you should have raised preflop. and at the end, it should have been in the back of your mind that he could be holding 66, and i would not have raised him.

i have made the same mistake multiple times. when you see a hand in front of you like a face card full house, you tend to neglect the fact the other person might have a better hand. i think i lost my biggest hand to date on AAAJJ vs JJJJ, even though after it was over, i realized it was obvious what he held.

BUT.... that is what makes the game fun, right?

Well Jace, I disagree with Vett here in that I don't think that a pre-flop raise with AJ is going to drive out small pocket pairs, at least not in the games that I play in. Also, I hate raising from early position with AJ and A10, it lets larger aces (AQ, AK) flat call after you and then you have no idea where you are if an ace flops.

Regardless of your pre-flop play, however, you had 2nd full on the river and every reason to suspect that someone with a naked jack would pay you off. When you lose with a hand like that, it's time to just shake your head and live to fight another day. There is NO WAY in my mind that you don't get all your chips into the pot with this hand. The day that I stop betting the shit out of my big fulls because I'm afraid of quads is the day that I stop playing poker and take up knitting.

You did fine, my friend, just got unlucky.
