bad cards happened. This is fine, though I might check behind the turn to induce bluffs and keep the pot smallish.

I dunno if i like checking behind on turn. I really don't know coz im tilting a bit after a rough day so take this with a pinch of salt, but that is a very drawy board. I think we should bet on the turn to get action for flush/straight draws, pp's below a jack (that are now thinking its less likely we have a jack), or a rag 8.

But checking behind for control and to get the hands mentioned above to bluff river, or even value bet river if they think they have the best hand, seem fine option aswell, i just prefer value betting the turn.

I like your entire line inscore, just s**tty turn and river

So do either of you think there is a possible way I can call this river?

Not without a crazygood read. Even then it's really dicey.

Folding is standard.

edit: just noticed the flush filled too. I call this like never.

you beat 9,t, your crushed by anything unless without reads

If he is check calling a pp or an 8, he wouldnt shove river, he would check call again. Most likely holding is a jack, full house which has been lamely slowplayed, heart flush or ax of spades.

so standard fold

Would it have been good to maybe check the flop and bet a bit more on the turn or would that pretty much end with same result? Just looking for a different way to play the hand

eww at checking flop, that is a definate nono in my book, unless villain is very likely to steal the pot on turn so we can come over hte top, but thats still real risky to give up a free card

I'd bet a bit bigger on the flop. 2/3 pot is better than nothing, but full pot is better still. As you say it's a drawy board, and most of the same hands are coming along so you get more money in while you're ahead.

I'd usually check behind on the turn not so much for deception, but more for pot control, because I'd be afraid of trip Jacks or perhaps a boat - after all, what's he calling with on the flop? Also he folds all the hands (save draws) you're beating to another bet here, whereas he's more likely to see a river value bet as a bluff with a missed draw or AK etc and call a bet from you. Also I'd have difficulty finding a value bet on the river if I get called on two streets and the river is a blank. Of course it varies by opponent and your image, but this is the basic idea.

I don't know why you would want to call the river. Villain has made it super-easy for you to get away by shoving. If he bet half pot I'd hate it a lot more, although you should still fold then, since [ah] is the worst card in the deck for you.
