1/2 nl live game, 10 players.
All players sat down at once when the floor manager started a new table. This was the third hand in so I had no real reads. Everyone at the table bought in for $100-150 for some reason despite a $200 max buy in. I bought in for a $150 and usually buy in for the max.

I was dealt JJ in late position. Player in third position raises to $7 ($150 stack), players 4,5,6,7, fold. I reraise to $17 and everyone folds but the big blind ($150 stack) and player 3 who call.

The flop comes 3, 7, J rainbow. The big blind checks, player three checks and I check.

The turn is another 7 giving me the boat. The big blind raises to $15. Player three folds and I reraise to $30.

The river brings a queen and the big blind checks. I raise to $50 and the big blind goes all in.

I call and he of course shows QQ giving him the bigger full house.

Could I have played this better or was it just one of those things? I realize a could bet on the flop but unless it was a really big bet the BB would have called and with only two in the pot I was trying to get some action. This was my thinking at least. After the flop, I figured the big could have had Ak, AA, KK, QQ or 77 or some other pair so I figured I was good.

I played for another hour and the big blind turned out to be a tight aggressive player. I later got a fullhouse cracked by quads and my straight beaten by a fullhouse. It was a bad night.

I appreciate any input. I have been on a bad run lately, so I'm going to start posting some of my hands to see if I am doing some wrong or I should just ride it out with what I'm doing.

i'd reraise a little larger preflop... about 3x the initial raise is the standard

flop check is reasonable because it's not drawy and you have the deck crippled. only exception is if you think it's quite likely that the preflop raise/caller has a big or medium pair, but you said you didnt really have reads or anything

on the turn, i'd raise an amount that will facilitate getting the rest of the money in on the river. looking at this board, if he has a hand that can call a raise to $30, he'll pretty much have a hand that can call a raise to $45

river is a clear bet/call and you just got coolered

Regardless of your play I don't think he's going to fold QQ in that spot. Coolered is correct.

Yea all pretty standard stuff, dont beat yourself up about it. The only thing i see at this level live is that a lot of players will felt QQ pre, regardless of the action. Chalk it up to experience, and note this player as someone that you can bluff in the future.

I think, at these levels you can safely ship on the turn and most of players will call you with an overpair. Also re-raisng preflop to define opponent's range is very crucial with hands like JJ, QQ.
