The pre-flop limp was safe, the biggest raise in the last 20mins was a min raise. Im gonna get a cheap flop unless we get some AA vs KK action.

It's going to be next to impossible to get any action unless he has a flush or straight, or at least a set (which he probably doesn't have given that board) or a powerful draw. Your best bet is to bet a third of the pot. That way, if he has a high club, he'll think he's getting the right odds to draw to the flush (although he's drawing dead, muhahahaha). Also has the advantage that it looks like a weak bet. If he already has a flush he'll raise you, also maybe if he has a straight.

Then if he calls, you're hoping for a club on the river. If it comes, overbet the pot. Otherwise, a risky but potentially profitable option would be to check the river and hope he bets, then raise all-in a la Hansen vs Negreanu. I'd probably just stick a value bet in on the river though and hope he has a hand.

Nice - I am always afraid to play those lower suited connectors. But getting braver and better- played some higher stakes cash tables and did very well this morning - and one of them was no limit. I was a little nervous but won a good pot with pocket aces so I was able to relax a bit.

Well he raised PF, and i can only hope that he has a high club, checking the turn and giving a free card is safe as houses, the chances of me being outdrawn is virtually nil and if i am then i go broke. I check and give a free river card. Even though a small bet on the turn is feasible, its not what i want, i want him to think im aftaid of the clubs so he bets in or bluffs the river.

I think checking here is weak... if he doesn't have any draw he'll probably fold if you bet, but the best you can hope for in this case is one more bet on the river of $8 if you check to him and he decides to bluff - you're not breaking him that way.

In fact if he has nothing but non-club high cards there's a good chance he'll check it down and you've won nothing. If he does have a high club you can build the pot with a bet that gives him the right odds to draw out. 1/3 pot still makes you looks as though you're a bit scared of the clubs and could be interpreted as a blocking bet.

If the club doesn't come on the river, that's when you should put him on no hand at all / busted flush draw, and check to induce the bluff. I don't put him on a high pair so unlikely he'll call if you bet into him.

Results for anyone thats interested, we were slowplaying each other in the end, i think my check on the turn was a mistake, a high naked club could have called for value.

Was the min raise to $14 designed to look weak? If he only has a Q high flush he probably only calls. For that reason I think you should have made it about $25-30 to get paid off... amazed this idiot just kept raising with a non nut hand.

Sorry to nit-pick, but isn't this a gut-shot straight draw? 4 X 6 7 8
