I would raise more pre-flop to maybe $0.50. The bet after the flop is questionable. Most people with top-top won't fold when somebody bet less than the pot size. But it's ok because you probably knew that you have the best hand and was trying to get more value out of it. I would definitely fire one more time on the turn (another pot size bet maybe even over pot size) though to let the guy know that his top pair is no good.

Yeah I would've gone for a shot on the turn, and pot size bet on the river. I think you not betting on the turn would've killed the river shot though.

Just got unlucky to be honest.

I would have raised on the turn just to cover the backdoor flush but more importantly i would have wanted to make some more out of the pot, you called $1 on a $3.30 pot.

I would have reraised it to $3, it might not have taken the pot down but his aggression suggest he had something (which you had beat) so he would have, in effect, had one live card to hit or a flush draw given you an opportunity to maximise you winnings.

I would have at least put him in a difficult spot at some point in the hand and given him an opportunity to make a mistake.

I'm surprised he didnt reraise you on the river though that makes me think a strong bet on the turn could have taken this down.

You will hear in that the most common way to win is to play Tight and Agressive.

You have a very good overpair and give him odds all the way through to stay in the hand.

the benefit of being aggressive when you have a good hand is

a) You can win the hand and protect outdraws.
b) you make rubbish players pay a high price for their mistakes when they call with inferier hands.
c) if you come up against big resistence you know that they have a good hand most the time. this is Information that you can use.

In short your pre-flop bet did nothing to give you the initiave. The flop bet gave you no information because you did not bet hard enough. You were then indecisive on the turn as a result and lost your "story" that you were telling him. ( eg - I told you had a good hand preflop, I am still telling you on the flop, do you still want to be in on the turn with yet another raise? )

Also note - you tell us nothing about the other player, does his play suggest that he will ever fold top Pair Top kicker? if no then this makes the play even more valid as he will keep on calling even if you do bet bigger and this is a long term winning play. If yes - you would know from betting bigger if he had better than TPTK and therefore was probably beating you.

Ultimately you got unlucky on the river when he hit one of 5 outs. You were 88% Favourite at this point and all you did was call his bet. In short you want to raise the pot big time here if you think you rae this far in front. How do you know - you find out information with your bets. You got no info from your bets.

My stats tell me I win most in cash games with 2pair or more. I do win some money with Top pair or overpair - but it is not so rewarding. Thats why you want to win these hands early on in a hand IMHO.

As an aside , can I suggest that the title of this thread should read.

"How do I make as much money from this hand as possible if I play it 1000 times"

Oh boy  .

You should have re-raised his min raise on the flop.

Failing that you should have bet the Turn.

you can count yourself lucky your opponent didn't want more of your chips, but you just drifted through this hand. As previous posters have said, more aggressive next time (and he's probably not going to fold, but get the money in if you think you're ahead and hope the hand stays up).
