Hero snapcalls. Villain can be doing this with all sorts of busted draws and since u showed weakness on the turn maybe he thinks you are attempting to just buy the pot. He also might show up with a T here sometimes. Also, 3bet to at least $3 preflop as villain is getting odds to call almost atc after your near min 3bet.

I called.

He had J9o. He raised UTG with J9o.

The guy was playing ATC, and raising oop with junk like that.

You can go ahead and move this to the "I'm still steaming 10 hours later" forum now.

Got it. Still learning ........ his odds for the call preflop are 1.15/3.20 or 2.8:1, which drop to less than 2:1 with the $3 3bet right? (I'm sure you can tell it's a .10/.25 game)

Thanks guys.

J9 is not junk, and by raising it UTG he got folds from all the players who had position on him, so he could play post-flop IP.

I guess I referred to it as junk because I just don't ever see that hand presented as a hand that is suitable to raise with UTG. (numerous other factors notwithstanding).

I certainly admit I have alot to learn, so how and when to raise UTG with J9o might be part of my education.

Its not so much the odds you're giving him to call either. Its how you exploit LAGs who open a wide range. They raise ~20%+ of their hands preflop. If I see anyone raising more than 15% of their hands pre, I'm going to be 3-betting them with junk a LOT, just because a huge percentage of their range can't stand a 3-bet. And I'm not going to be 3-betting them to 2x their raise either...
