Have you guys ever seen anyone muck their hand when it was their turn to act first after the river came down? Here's how it went down... $5/$10 Limit Hold 'Em on a cruise ship. I'm not even in the hand but the guy to my right is. He raises preflop to $10... 1 guy calls, flop comes 6s 10d 4c guy who raised bets $5... called... turn Js... guy bets $10... called... river 5d... guy looks at his cards and MUCKS when he had the option to check!!! He gave the guy over a $50 pot for FREE!!! So being the jackass I can be sometimes, and this may have been inappropriate on my part here's the dialogue that went down between him and I after he mucked.

Me: "You just gave him the pot for nothing, when you could have checked ya know."
Guy: "I didn't want anyone to see my cards."
Me: "Well, with all the betting I'm pretty sure you had a pair."
Guy: (Completely Snaps) "What are you looking at my cards!!!!"
Me: "No man, it's just pointless to keep betting then muck on the river when you have the option of checking, so you must of had something."
Guy: It's my money I suggest you let me do with it what I want."
Me: "That's fine, you can muck all you want when you have the option to check, keep doing it I'll gladly take all your chips in that manner."

*I didn't really know if the guy had a pair or not, but I knew that comment would irritate him if he did. Apparently he did, so that makes his MUCK when he had the option to check even more laughable.

I think he was trying to bluff the pot then decided he didn't want to look like an idiot when it came to the showdown!

Why bother trying to tell the dipshit that he's doing wrong? Maybe he had no idea what a bad move it was, you've now informed him of it and he might not do it again.

If a guy pushes all in with 72 do you tell him it was a bad play?

No offence, but that chat makes you sound rather arsehole-ish.

I know it does... and the guy had a pair because he told me. That's why I didn't understand it. I'm not master of poker or anything, but I also don't mind ruffling a few feathers at the table. If it throws other people off their game and if it makes that guy want to come after me then by all means advantage me. And yes if I guy pushes all in with 72 and he flips them over, I would intentionally laugh out loud and let him know nice push in the most sarcastic way possible (If I'm in the pot with him that is).

You weren't in the hand you had no business commenting on it.

I agree with Dorkus, it does make you seem like an ass and it certainly isn't something I would be proud of.

I wasn't saying I was proud of it, so don't spin it like that chief. I was just asking if anyone has ever had this happen before. Not being in the hand has nothing to do with me making a comment considering I said something after the hand was dead and over. I didn't know you weren't allowed to speak your mind and point out something at the table, no? And yes I was an asshole about it... I let the fact that 80% of this table didn't know how to play poker get to me. It can get rather annoying when someone takes forever to decide to fold or call, doesn't know when it's their turn to act, doesn't know when it's their turn to post the blind, and worst of all after going to a showdown this 1 lady as I flipped over my cards would stare at her pocket cards for 30 secs trying to make a better hand by staring at the board (she did it atleast 3 times to me then mucked). I mean I'm all for playing with the fishies, but when it gets to the point where it is slowing up play and affecting the flow of the game a man can tolerate only so much.

Well, one thing you need to understand is that the ONLY reason fish play poker is for fun. They're obvously not in it to make money because they don't make money. When you go off on players that are not as good as you then they don't have as much fun and they go away. After they go you are stuck on a table with players better than you. When that happens you become the fish yourself.

Also...there isn't really any need to throw a bad player off of their game. They already suck. You telling them off will make them change their play in which they can beat you and again you become the fish.

You should be nice to the fish so you're not stuck with the sharks.

We played with some pretty inexperienced players over the weekend but had a blast doing it! There was no need to be rude when they made mistakes. They were there just to have fun and we made it fun for them while taking their chips in the process........so a good time was had by all!

Exactly! I mentioned something like this in a post I made about table talk. Why the hell would you want to point that out to him? Just shut the hell up, note in yer noggin and play on.

And the chances of him lying about this are quite good.

Obv he was bluffing all the way to the river and he was feeding you a line about having a pair as well. Telling you he mucked a pair and you believing him doesn't make you sound like the brightest bulb either :/

Don't tap the glass on the tank. Instead, encourage them to stick around by making it fun at the table.

As to the original question, yes I've had someone flat out muck their cards. It was in a charity MTT, and my brother was sitting to my right. I had raised it PF and he and I were the only ones in the hand. I bet the flop, he called, and when the turn card came up he folded / mucked.

It surprised some of the people at the table and one spoke up and said " you know you can check, you don't have to bet". He replied "oh I know, but I also know how my brother plays and I wasn't going to call another bet"

I thought it was funny.

well thanks to the last post for answering the question. this guy wasn't there to have fun, he was there to win but he was still a fish. that's why it threw me off because he had been so serious during the game. he told me he had a 6 after we talked about it later on, so why shouldn't i believe him.

Overall I just keep my comments to myself at the poker table. Anytime anyone loses a hand they are usually not in the mood to have someone critique their actions, even if you are trying to help them.

I did some really stupid things when I first played b&m poker. A couple of times, a friendly player quietly mentioned to me (a few hands later) a mistake I made -- like mucking the winning hand. :embarasse I appreciated the fact that it was said discretely and after the fact.
