I got way too excited, and in the end I feel like I couldn't get the most out of the hand. How should I have played it differently?

Why not go allin with quads? And why check flop with 2 pair? You want to get money in the pot with a good hand. He probably won't fold a flush or full house if you go allin so just go allin and if he calls you win big pot if he folds well that's poker :D:cool:

You did manage to win roughly 60% of the average stack size on the table, and your opponent was playing Q high. You were incredibly fortunate to come away with as much as you did to be honest.

Of course, there was no reason for you to not bet the flop and shove the river, which ironically enough would have won you less money in this situation.

As it has been said, the best way to make more money on this hand is to bet the flop. Building the pot on the flop allows you to make a big bet on the turn, and an even bigger bet on the river. Not sure if you were looking to slowplay or c/r this flop-- regardless, in a multi-way pot, betting out here is probably your best move.
