What do you think of my fold? I figured my kicker was much too low to call, especially because he called my 25 cent raise preflop.

I think I would have called the bet on the flop. You had position on him so you could see how he was going to act on the turn before you made your decision. There are alot of hands that he is going to bet on the flop that you can beat so I think it is a pretty easy call. If he throws out another big bet on the turn then we can fold knowing he probably has us.

I think the 6big blind preflop raise is a little excessive, there's no limpers and you just have to deal with the blinds.

trouble

I think the problem here is two-fold: Either you shouldn't be playing this hand so aggressively preflop, or you need to be more aggressive on the flop.

Make the PF raise smaller (e.g., 3 BB), which give the guys in the blinds the opportunity to raise and show their relative hand strength (a 6 BB raise looks like either an attempt to steal or a strong-pair bet, whereas a 3BB bet could mean almost anything - so its more likely a strong hand will raise you, giving you more information).

Or, if you do bet that big PF, don't be afraid to raise the flop. For all you know, the BB may just be using a stop-and-go, or betting a weak ace to check where you are. Go ahead and raise him - its most likely he will fold to your position if his hand isn't a monster. He might call, but then he'll most likely check to you on the turn, giving you a chance to improve for free if you check behind. Or, if he re-raises you, you then know you're beaten and can fold.

Either way, I think the key is to match your PF play to your postflop play consistently. As you played it, I think you're asking for players to bully you postflop. Your PF and postflop play are both good by themselves (you should bet a suited A from the button when no-one else is in yet, and it's not a bad thing to fold a weak A on this flop), but the two just don't work together very well.

I agree with Zebranky for the most part. I think your preflop raise was too big and you played the flop very weakly. I don't know if I agree with raising on the flop after he bets because I think a call will have a similar effect on the turn. If you call and he is holding a weak ace, he will probably check the turn to you. By calling the flop you kept the pot small as well which is another bonus.

I really don't like the pre-flop raise either. You can take down the random blinds with a much smaller raise. The only way you get called on a x6 is someone with a strong hand or someone with a marginal hand (like 88) that plans on making a move post-flop.

Villain does not have a monster hand. If he had AK, AA, a strong A, a set or two pair, he would not lead given your x6bb raise. He would check, knowing you will make a continuation bet at which point he lowers the hammer or smooth calls if he has a true monster.

But Villain leads here...so you have to raise, make it $1.20 and find out if you are good. It sucks, but you put yourself in the situation by making it x6 pre-flop. If Villain calls, you have position so most likely you get to see the turn and river free.
