The thing that angers me is that i would have just called the river bet but after reading what somebody posted on one of my other hand histories i deiced to re-raise. I suspected that he had a better hand, should i embrace the cold deck for the sake of value in the long run; is that profitable?

How does the ace hitting the river change anything? Should i be more / less inclined to stack off?

BTN could be raising river with KJ, trip Q, a better full house or quads. You're ahead of that range and he'll stack with all of it, so i like the raise.

Ace on the river is great card for us as is completes the straight for KJ who should not stack to us, and it and does not increase the chances of a better FH as AQ or AA would most likely have 3bet preflop.

I sense that i was beat, so what is the line of action / train of thought about raising in these situations as they come up a lot...

I sense I'm beat, i tell myself that i am being paranoid / that there is more equity in shoving in these spots

How should i proceed / view these situations?

Thanks

I sense that i was beat

Unless you haven proven extra-sensoriel abilities (which, afaik, would be a first in human history), you should rely on ranges and probabilities, not on "sensing".

In the worst case, i.e. villain flat calls preflop with hands as good as AA, QQ, TT and AQ, then we still have a big lead over villain's range of good trips, straights and boats:

Hand 0: 62.745% 62.75% 00.00% 32 0.00 { 6d6s }
Hand 1: 37.255% 37.25% 00.00% 19 0.00 { AA, QQ, TT, AQs, KJs+, QTs+, AQo, KJo+, QTo+ }

I think AA, QQ and a lot of times TT or AQ would 3bet preflop here, so I'll removed the pocket pairs and leave AQ, that makes it

Hand 0: 72.727% 72.73% 00.00% 32 0.00 { 6d6s }
Hand 1: 27.273% 27.27% 00.00% 12 0.00 { AQs, KJs+, QTs+, AQo, KJo+, QTo+ }

Even if you think he does not stack with trips but only with straights and boats you're still ahead

Hand 0: 57.143% 57.14% 00.00% 16 0.00 { 6d6s }
Hand 1: 42.857% 42.86% 00.00% 12 0.00 { AQs, KJs, QTs, AQo, KJo, QTo }

I'm not a huge fan of bet/3-betting the river with an underfull on an ace river. But I suppose we can still get looked up by worse, especially since button only called. Definitely a bit of a cooler there.

Not stacking here is a serious leak, imo. Too much pays us off, and there's too little in his (realistic) range that has us beat.
