I think I mashed this hand up quite badly. How would you extract the most from it? Thought I'd slow-play on the flop, but he bet so I decided to raise.

Well, first thing I would do is not call it the nut STRAIGHT. ;) :p

So, trying not be be results oriented...PF is fine. I'm ok with check/raise on flop, though I think I would have lead out. Story is strange because you raised OOP PF, then check raised flop. I'm thinking his range is A with K, Q, J, or T (maybe w/ a diamond on the J), QJ (maybe) or a set (now) since he called your PF and flop raises (although he is in position). I'm pretty sure that 4th diamond scared him with your check raise on the turn. In this situation, flat calling the turn may have eased his concerns a little thinking you are concerned about the diamond on the turn as well. If you can see him putting you on two smaller diamonds which are now susceptible to one larger diamond after the turn, then the story works and he should be more open calling a bet from you on the river.

Having said that, he could have been on 2pr looking to pair the board for a boat and flush your flush. I seem to recall an author saying that if you think you have the best hand, it is almost always correct to bet it. Take the money and move on...really not all that mashed up, imo.

just bet like 3/4th of the pot on the flop. Im assuming that you usually c-bet when you raise preflop. A check-raise looks extremely strong to villian, I think the best way to disguise your hand is bet the flop.

Straights, flushes... they're different??
Not the way I play. I still think two pair should beat trips. Afterall, you need four cards to get two pair but you only need three cards to make trips. That means it is 33 1/3% harder to make two pair than trips.

Yep, straight draws on the flop are more difficult to hit than flush draws, so straights should rank higher than flushes.

Any fool can play 2 suited cards but it takes skill to make a straight.

I would have called on the turn and if your opponent bet on the river, then you raise. You got a nice pot with this play anyway so good job.
