It's the very first hand at the table, so no reads at all. Still I thought I would get myself in to a little trouble :)
I feel villain is making a continuation bet, with less than a premium hand, and if he is a decent player I can throw him off a lot of hands where we have aproximately the same amount of equity, if I make the check-raise on the flop.

Game #1984460953: Omaha H/L PL ($0.50/$1) - 2006/05/29 - 19:15:50 (ET)

Riverrat: folds
Ozzy2: raises to $42
toroinc: raises to $90.18 and is all-in
Ozzy2: calls $48.18

I'll tell you how it went later so that you don't think of the result rather then the play.

How would you have played the flop differently? check-fold, check-raise, check-call or bet out. And if you bet out how do you react if you are getting called or raised?

haven't played plo8 in a while, so bear with me ;)

i think you're safe on the high side of the pot, and my guess at villain's holdings are A2xx...i think he's just being aggressive and betting the low. He could also have a wrap for A25X which would give him a nice draw and puts you in a little hot water - he would have a monster 21 outs for low, and 9 of them giving him the wheel.
It's pretty unlikely he has a set, so like i said i think you're safe for now with the high side of the pot.
Personally, I think i would have led out to get more info on him. I wouldn't check-raise with 3-pair, but that's just me - maybe i'd do it with a set, but not with 3 pair.
If i were to get just called, i'd put him on a low draw. If i were to get raised, i'd probably call thinking i was ahead, but being careful if a 3rd wheel card came.

I like your line.

Villains actions absolutely reek of AA2x here (this would be far easier to determine with a read on how often he raises pf, I enjoy it when someone with like 1% pfr over 100 hands raises preflop as he may as well turn his cards face up), though A2[high pp] is also likely. Given that villain would have to have two case cards for a set, and the board is relatively draw-free, I think you're easily ahead of his range here and have a virtual lock on at least half the pot (notwithstanding 2 outers).

At low limits you will occasionally see donks with silly hands like 3456 / KK52 / etcetc here too, further justifying the raise-call (a little).

I don't like getting so deeply into a pot with absolutely no read on opponents (which is why I generally play very tightly for a while if I've not been watching the table beforehand), but I think it's just about forgivable here (though I'd much prefer having a note on villain saying "overplays AAxx/A2xx)".

Don't post in MP, btw! :p It's just about +EV to post in the CO, but anywhere else yer better off waiting for the BB.

Well I'm glad nobody said bet-fold or check-fold cause Like Chuck and Dorkus both pointed out, I'm most likely ahead on the high side of the pot. Against the most likely range of my opponents hands it's a complete coinflip, where neither of us are a 51% favourite. However if the villain is decent it's likely I can make him fold hands like A5, A6 and stuff like that, that also has close to 50% equity, so it is important to get aggresive in this situation.

@Chuck:
I actually like the check-raise better than leading out in this situation, although leading out isn't terrible.
1) I don't see how I get more information from leading out, and if villain simply calls me, there are a lot of turn cards where I will have to check-fold, so I prefer to potcommit myself so I don't have any tough decisions on future streets.
2) The other late position player would probably go for a check-raise aswell if he had hit this flop. And I would have to fold if he did that after I lead out. By checking, I'm actually buying last position.
3) I get to punish villain for making a continuation bet if he completely missed the flop.
4) If villain for some reason decides to check this flop (very unlikely), then I don't really mind cause I'm getting more info on his hand than he is getting on mine. And if I don't like the turn I can simply fold, and bet if I like it.

@Dorkus:
I don't really think 2 seats of the button is considered MP and if it's -EV to post there it's not by much. But I have never been known to be a patient person, so I will always choose to post there :) .
I don't like to get involved in hands early either, because of the missing reads, but I don't think I could avoid it here. Because there
s no way I'm not folding this hand preflop, and not on the flop either. It's just a little bit to good to do that.
I'm not really putting villain on AA2x but rather A2xx or A3Wx. I would expect him to raise more with AA2 preflop, but it doesn't really matter because AA2x and A2xx has aproximately the same equity.

Result of the hand:
As it turned out, there was no reason to consider what the likely range of hands was for villain, because he was a donk. He showed [3c] [4d] [10c] [7h] for a whopping bottom 2 pair with no low draw. Luckily he didn't suck out on me and I won the pot.

lmao

...and yeah, I agree my range is way too narrow. In my defense, I did post my last post at 1:54am :eek:
