I guess you ask yourself "What can I beat?" with this player pushing. Does he have trip 8's with a higher kicker (A8)? Does he have pocket 4s? Does he have 84?
That's sometimes how I convince myself to make those laydowns.

You´re advice is sound but I´m not sure it applies at this level against a shortstack. I think calling is best considering the circumstanses. I wouldn´t be surprised to see a 4 or any pocket pair here, even a complete bluff is quite possible. And OP is way ahead of all of these hands.
