Flopped top set, but with flush draw and 2 opponents

K, right after playing this hand I thought that I played it okay, but not long afterwards I thought that I misplayed it. Then today I'm thinking again that it was okay.

Since I'm obviously not clear on this I'm hoping to get a few other opinions. No reads that I can recall; this was maybe the third orbit but I was 2 tabling, which is something that I have a hard time doing and getting good reads at the same time.

So he's limp/called my raise from UTG+1, and then leads the flop. I've also got one more person in the hand behind me yet.


Call, or raise, and if raising, what do I want to happen?

Draw heavy board, and the like likely hood of the villian having a slowplayed overpair/AJ is good. re-Raise to $5, re-shove any reraise and reevaluate any turn.

yep - pop it up to $5-6 so the others don't get odds to call with any draws they might have and play stack-a-donk from there.

If Alpha behind me has a flush or straight draw he should fold to the raise.

Do we expect AJ/overpairs from UTG+1 to call/shove the reraise? I can't put him on anything else as $2 seems too much for a blocking bet.

Typical $25 NL players either go OMG I have TPTK/Overpair ALLIN. or attempt to call down.

Raise it up here, giving a free card is bad, your hand is not strong enough to slow play. If the flop was J 3 7 then go for it, but alas its not.

I was just reading about this in the archives at another site. In this situation with top set on a possible OESD and flush draw (let's say there is someone with 910h) you would have roughly 60% equity on the flop and 70% equity if the turn bricks. It's debatable but I like building the pot toward getting it all in on the turn if it bricks. I like raising it to 6 or 7$.

Pot was 4.35 or so after the flop, 6.35 after the $2. flop bet. I raised $5 to $7 because there were still 2 left in the hand. They folded, and UTG+1 said he had AJ.


I think the only reason I questioned my play afterwards for a time is because I forgot there was someone else behind me yet to act. If it was only the flop bettor in the hand I might have considered letting him see some more cards for a price.
