I often find myself unsure how to proceed with a flopped semi-monster such as this one. Would love to get some input on this one.

They probably have high cards. The flop almost certainly missed them... if someone has an 8, you're screwed..I'd check again and try and see a showdown cheaply... you can still get away from the hand if you get a read on the hand or a scare card like AKQ come on the river.

Check fold the turn, maybe call a bet if your opponents have shown a tendancy to bluff. You only beat a bluff, so cheap showdown is the name of this game.

Oh, and raise the flop. Why wait til the turn to make your move? If someone has an 8, they're not folding. And pocket pairs TT+ probably aren't either. Raise & get value, fer rizzle.

If you can see a really cheap showdown I take it, but if villain bets 2/3 pot or higher on the turn i think you just have to let it go.

insolitude: checks
FIushGordon: bets $3.25
Ritzo23: raises $1.95 to $5.20 and is all-in
insolitude: folds (I figure at this point I am almost certainly facing a higher FH or quads)
FIushGordon: calls $0.75 and is all-in
Uncalled bet ($1.20) returned to Ritzo23
*** RIVER *** [5d 8s 8h 8c] [5h] (WTF!?)
*** SHOW DOWN ***
FIushGordon: shows [Kd Kc] (a full house, Eights full of Kings)
Ritzo23: mucks hand
FIushGordon collected $16.45 from pot
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot $17.25 | Rake $0.80
Board [5d 8s 8h 8c 5h]
Seat 1: Pastinak1979 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 2: Ritzo23 mucked [6d 6s]
Seat 4: woernsi77 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 5: patof55 (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 6: AcMezz (small blind) folded on the Flop
Seat 7: insolitude (big blind) folded on the Turn
Seat 8: holleyty folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 9: FIushGordon showed [Kd Kc] and won ($16.45) with a full house, Eights full of Kings

As far as my check-call on the flop, I figure my opponents have overcards that missed the flop. If one of them hits a high card on the turn, all the better for me. At least in theory, right? Except when it bites you in the ass...
