Aside from the smaller details of this hand that are relevant, let me keep this discussion simpler by giving out a few of the more important aspects. I had been playing at my local casino at a full $5/$10 NL table for about 4 hours and felt I had a good handle on how everyone was playing. As always with any table game there are players coming in and out. So of course there were a few fairly new players when this hand came around to be. I had sat down with $1300 and at the time of the hand I was up to about $1680 with the rest of the table just about equal in chip count. Give or take a few hundred here and there.
So the hand sets up like this. I’m in late position with 6d 7d. Not the best starting hand I’ve ever had, but I’ve taken down 2 out of 3 pots including the last 1. So I’m figuring, "Let’s keep the rush going & get in this 1 if you can." There are 3 limpers in front of me & I just call the blind as well. Leaving the button (fold), SB (fold) and the BB (raises to $30). Surprisingly to me the 3 limpers call around to me. Now the BB had changed gears once already at the table and had dropped roughly half his stack in the last hour. I could sense him changing back to a TAG the last 7 or 8 hands. Previously in this mode he was basically playing only high pocket pairs. I personally saw him play nothing less than 10's. So that’s what I’m putting him on. 10's or better.
Now what do I do? I’m thinking that there is $130 in the pot with $20 for me to see the flop. What the hell. "I’ve driven 2 hours to get here. If I hit I should make some money and If I don’t, I only spent $20 more than I wanted to." Flop comes 2d 5d 8d. So I flopped a flush (albeit weak) and an open ended straight flush. Pot is now at $150 and BB along with 3 limpers check to me.
Now what? Well I make a pot sized of $150. I’m fairly certain that the limpers would have made a bet if they caught a piece and the BB? I’m sticking to a high pair and maybe he caught a set if he dropped down and played a lower pair than I originally thought. So sure enough the 3 limpers fold and the BB calls. Pot is now at $450 with the turn coming up 10c. I’ve got $1500 in chips staring at a $450 pot. I’m figuring if he called that flop bet he is going to call me the whole way with pot sized bets. I go all-in for $1500 to make the pot $1950. He calls, flips over AhAd and catches his diamond on the river. O.k. let me know how badly I suck at poker and what I should have done.

You got all your money in with the best hand, save preflop when you made a good pot odds call.

$1500 into that $450 pot was really over the top (what if he's trapping with AKd? Or what if he's got black aces - then you've just discouraged action from a monster hand that would be drawing dead), but hell, you got his entire stack drawing to 5 outs. Nothing to complain about here.

The Best Hand Won

I think you played it correct except for the 1st mistake being: playing a low flush like its a high flush. You played that hand in the 1st place thinking that you were going to continue your rush but as soon as you got your hopes up when seeing that flop, you made the wrong move by pushing all in on the turn. Play that hand like you see it instead of trying to make your hand represent a high flush. Anyways, in that hand the best hand won which was the pkt AAs. I don't like seeing those get cracked too much.....except for when they're against me.

I understand your reasoning for pushing on the turn. I don't think you suck at poker at all with this play. Like chuck said, you had him drawing to 5 outs, what more could you ask for?

Nice play, you don't suck at poker. At times when I should have gone all in, I bet weakly... I suck at it. :( lol.

well

like has been said you played it fine, of course with a overpair and the flush draw to the nuts not sure he was going anywhere. I personally might of folded my AA but dont know.

you got him to put all his money in drawing, you got exactly what you wanted. I dont mind your call preflop you were getting fine odds, as for like someone said playing a small flush like a high one that dosent make too much sense to me. You played the flush like the flush, you represented it and he called, dosent matter what the rank of the cards were. If you are going to play a hand like that and you actually do hit you have to play it fast and hard to get people drawing to 4 board flushes which again is what you did. You just got unlucky.

also someone said the best hand won, actually no the hand is ranked when all the money went in the pot. When all the money went in the pot the AA was the dog in the hand so actually the AA sucked out. In a 5/10 NL game the AA made a real bad raise against three limpers.

Well, you played well enough, you opp played bad, but he was lucky, you was unlucky :(. It happens... I only don't like your all in move.

I'm not going to say anything new, I'll just say it more explicit...
Your pushing all in was hasty.

A) If he has a made flush, you're destined to be wiped out

B) If he has only a draw, YOU WANT HIM to call. You just have to destroy his pot odds and $500 is enough.
So, your all in move has two implications:

a) you lost the possibility to fold, if a diamond falls

b) you made his call difficult (If he hasn't Ad or trips, he would certainly fold. However, he might call $500)

He made a huge mistake by calling you, but luck have been on his side...
