Divorcing a player from his hand

From previous reads I knew this guy loved to chase. Besides hitting him on the side of his head with a frying pan, can you think of any other way to get him off the chase?

yep, you do want him to chase as dbitel said. Anytime a player makes a decision differently from how he would if he knew your cards, you gain. Fundamental Theorem of Poker. Suck outs suck, but c'est le poker.

What ^^^ said. Raise to like $1.50 or $2 PF, then probably shove the flop considering stack sizes/pot size if you get a call.

Raise more pf and hoping people who chase hopelessly would stop sucking on you is very much bad poker: you get AA 0.9% of the time, you thus need to maximize your winning with it, even if it means something getting them cracked. Unless you know that villain will call with stupid longshot draws when you shove flop, don't ever play them as fast as this since you'll never give him a chance to make a mistake and your fear will become a leak in your game. Bet hard and extract as much value as possible.

I agree, you need to raise more PF. The reason for that is so that you take away set odds from potential callers and make marginal hands pay dearly to stay in. Also, each successive PF call gives the next player to act better odds to stay in the hand, so a smallish raise is just going to build a multiway pot, not eliminate hands that are now getting correct odds to try and flop sets/2 pair etc...With AA you'd like to narrow the field.

I think a raise to $1.00 preflop mighta done it.

But you did fine on the turn. You had the best hand and he had 13 outs to make his hand. You were a 70% favorite and you got your money in. That's poker.

I'm not complaining about the outcome. Things like this happen. What i want to know is about the preflop raise. What you are saying is to just throw out semi standard play and bang it. Standard playing theory says raise 5XBB but you are advocating just throwing a wad out there. Now would this be because of my read on the guy or because at this level you will have players bet at anything?

standard theory doesn't say anything of the sort.

The standard preflop raise should be 4BB + 1BB for every limper.

Here however, its already been raised before you. I always raise pot preflop, so a pot sized raise would be to $1.15. A good general rule of thumb if there is a raise infront of you and you want to reraise is to make it 3.5x the raise + 1xthe raise for every caller. So here that would be to 5.5 x 0.2 = $1.1

I searched him on sharkscope and found him to be a relative newbie to PS, so IMO, there was no possible way to get him off the draw as new players have no idea what pot/implied odds are, you did fine in betting, you just found a donkey.
