I lead that river with the intention of calling a raise / shove - there are hands that can beat us, but there are just too many that will give us action and value to give this one away cheap.
A naked 8 is likely to at least call, trip sevens likely will as well, and maybe even overpairs or bluffs if they put us on something that's scared of the straight or boat possibilities. And some of the time villain will have the exact same hand as us.
Weighed up against that, there's only really four or five hands we need to be worried about: 77, 66, 55, 44 and maybe 76. If the villain's tight like you say he's probably throwing away 75 and 74 before the flop, even if it's limped.
It's $39 to call into a $49 pot, and it's those few hands vs the range of other possibilities that we beat. No way I'm folding this.
