From my local game.

I have AJ under the gun five handed. I raise to 13.
Player A to my left calls
Small Blind calls.
pot 41
Flop comes 9c 10s Qs
I make a continuation bet of 23
Player A raises to 50 (sb folds)
27 for 114. We each have 700 in front of us. I figure why not.
Turn comes Kc - I make the nuts.
I bet out 70 dollars into a pot of 141. f
Player A thinks about it and calls. Pot is 281.
Turn cards comes 5c
I lead out 100.
Player waits, raises to 275.
I call and lose to AQc - the nut flush.

How could/should I have played this differently?

The only thing I would have done differently is raise more on the turn, to get the flushdraws out and keep the lower straights in and maybe the 2 pair and sets. But not much else you can do with these cards.

You didn't put in enough on the turn. You should bet something ~pot-sized there, since villain is either likely to give you his stack (such as AQc, where he has pair+overcard+nut flush draw), or fold to any bet, and you might as well take advantage of that.

Yes bet more on the turn. Even a pot-sized raise would be adequate as your opponent might have both a flush and a straight draw.

To make a flush on river your opponent's chance is about 1/4.5. Therefore, if you bet half the pot he is getting 1:3 odds to call plus implied profit on river. So basically you are inviting him to call with a flush draw.

Thanks for the comments. It's a 1-2 game, but usually everyone has 500+ in front of them so it plays more like a 2-5 game. 17$ raises fairly typical preflop.

There seems to be strong consensus I misplayed the turn. That's probably right. He's getting 3-1 on his call. He has big implied odds and position. If he hits his card he can expect a big payoff. Same logic I used on the flop. I think I miscounted the pot. It was late.

But also, I think I was putting him on QJ and thought he might have made a lower straight. My first thought was going for a check raise. But I went with my second idea, which was to make a fairly weak bet he might interpret as a bluff (it's a crazy game, lots of moves get made), and hopefully get him to come over the top.

Thanks for the comments, it was in interesting hand for me, even though I lost it. And I still managed a small profit on the night when all was said and done....
