I think it was a terrible pre-flop call by him... KT offsuit out of position when I'm declaring that I'm well ahead and possibly dominating... and the most incredible miracle flop imaginable for him comes. He called my raise so there's no way I could have put him on the straight, the only hand that beats me, could I?

Well, when he came over the top of you on the flop my first instinct was he`s got KT.

I still think you`ve got to see it, though, unless you`ve got a good read on him and you know otherwise. It`s such an unlikely hit, and sometimes when the other guy has struck gold you just have to pay him off. The alternative is to chicken out every time you don`t have the nuts, and that`s a losing approach in the long term.

Maybe reraise his flop checkraise if you think he is on the draw. If he reraises/pushes, consider being beaten. I don't know that I could lay it down (top set and all). But if you have a read on him and know you could be beaten, then this is the kind of hand you have to be able to lay down. However, if you really don't know, then most people will have to pay him off.

After his flop raise, you've gotta proceed with caution - reads dependant of course. If he's a lagomaniac then by all means stick him in but this is just about the definition of an action flop. Easier said then done of course; I most probably go broke here too :(

He was somewhat on the lago side from what I'd seen, though not completely. He lost pretty much all his money a few hands later with a low 2 pair against a fairly dangerous looking board where the other guy made a straight. I'm pretty sure he'd have played it the same with JJ or 99, probably 2 pair, and maybe an overpair. I think it'd take a pretty tight opponent for me to not pay this off, and I still had outs. But actually a tight player would have never made that pre-flop call... so crap, who am I not gonna pay off here? I really dont know. Bahhh, oh well.

Umm i go broke approximately 100% of the time here.

How all the money doesn't go in on the flop I dunno though.

Well the money didnt get all-in on the flop because I wanted to just call and see if a diamond, K, T, or 8 hits the turn. If he's drawing and he makes his draw on the turn, I can hope he plays it soft/slowplays it and then attempt to pair the board on the river for my full house on the river to take all his chips. If he's aggressive on the turn I can consider getting away from the hand (like I said, only if a diamond, K, T, or 8 hits). If he's aggressive on the river and I didn't hit my FH, I can consider doing the same.

Is this a bad way to play these situations? If it is, someone needs to explain to me why so I can stop. I like having options and not just straight pushing with 2 cards to come and so many possible draws/ I could already be behind anyway.

If you have a set on the flop, get all the money in, because you're a favourite against any draw - although they may think they're favourite. I'd certainly go bust here as I couldn't put my opponent on KT. I'd more likely think they had trip nines, a straight and/or flush draw, or QJ / J9. Don't worry too much about it - it was just a bad flop. Plus you always have outs. He's actually only 61% to win with his straight on this flop.

Had a quick glance at the HH.. I think the numbers are accurate...

Pot = $24.50 after villians $10 raise.
Reraise $49 putting villian all-in on flop:
10% chance of taking pot - win $16.50 = + 1.65
0.9*61% of losing - lose $63 = -34.59
0.9*39% of winning - win $65.50 = +22.99
-------------
EV = -9.95
-------------

Folding to villian's raise - EV = -8.00

So only slightly more expensive to push at the flop. It's speculative whether someone would lay a straight down 1/10 times with a straight, but what the hey. They way you actually played it removes the fold equity, so it comes in a little more expensive.
