i was at the table, the way that guy was playing there was no way you could fold I dont think. Especially with his turn check, he disguised it well but he was playing pretty much anything he could, Cant fault the river call with the set hitting

Hate these trap hands, that's the one card that forces you to call. You've got over 2/1 odds, you need to get this right 1 time in 3 to make it a profitable play long term. His river raise certainly implies flush, but he's your sole opponent, and would have to have specifically 2 spades to beat you (or KK), so i reckon, long term calling is +ev. He could have pair, 2 pair.

He's taken $12 from you and doesn't deserve it playing like that, but hey, that's poker etc etc

Yep, really nothing can be added to this. The river forced you to play it the way you did, and it sure stinks to lose with a set when people get sooooo lucky on you.
