Ok here is how my hand played out.

I am on the Button, ten players at the table, I am one of the shortest if not the shortest stack at the table with $117.

On the button I am dealt AA's. 5 people limping in, I raise it to $11 (the one aggressive kid had been making raises of 11 on a great deal of hands, so I thought this raise would disguise my hand as a kind of friendly joke bet, but still get some people out while getting money in). Anyway all five called after the SB and BB folding.

Pot: $58

Flop comes 8d 5c 3d

First player bets out $25, two player folds, one calls, I reraise all in, $81 on top.

Pot is now $211.

First player to lead out folds after some thought, and then the last player calls stating, "I had to call"

We all probably know now that he did in fact have the flush draw Kd5d, and yes he did catch the flush on the river.

Woulda been a nice hand to win and it has pretty much been haunting me since Saturday.

Obviously I dont like his first two calls with K5 suited, but I think his calling my all in was possibly correct, what are your thoughts on the hand?

Your all-in was fine I guess. You played pre-flop about as poorly as possible. Limping would have actually been better than what you did.

Including the blinds the pot was $24 when it got back to the limpers and they needed to call $9 more. no one is folding getting almost 3 to 1 on speculative hands.

He's got it pretty spot on. PF I'm raising to about $20-$25 here. Aces you really need to get it heads up here, and $10 ain't gonna do it ($12 was the standard at the 1/2 game I played yesterday. big pairs were open raised to $17ish)

Thanks for the advice. I am new to the cash game, especially live (only my second time). I really enjoy it though, even more than the tourneys I have always played.

I think my problem is the raising pre-flop. I am realizing that its not like a tourney where 5x big blind is a good raise, that basically means nothing. Getting into the 15-25 is where you scare people out. Hopefully I will improve along the way soon.

Keep in mind that the big raises are only because $1/$2 live is a donk level. If you eventually move to higher stakes (or play equivalent stakes online) raises get a bit more standard.

I've been wondering what a standard raise even means in these 1/2 games. I've played 2 sessions so far, and it was very confusing to me as to why people would sit down at 1/2 limit and be betting so off the wall and out of proportion with the blinds. Why wouldn't they just buy into a higher level if its the big money action they're looking for. It didn't take me long to realize this was a much different poker than I had ever played before.

How long did it take u guys find a winning strategy at these types of wild low limit live games?

Just play solid, straight forward poker and you can mop up the $1/$2 NL live games. Don't get too tricky, since half the time people don't understand what is going on anyway. Most people are just there "for a good time (especially on the weekends)," and barely can read a hand, let alone play hold 'em. Occasionally you will actually run into someone who knows what they are doing, but they are pretty easy to spot so you can just stay clear of them.

It's not that they want action, per se, it's more that people don't want to put TOO large of a buy in and at the same time want to gamble. So you will find several limpers very often at these live casino games. The other problem is that people who go play in a casino to gamble don't understand what we as poker players understand like raising relative to the blinds/pot or concepts such as pot odds. They also tend to overvalue alot of hands. Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the tips, I really feel I can have success playing these games and with A.C. only an hour away it is definitely fun to go down and spend the afternoon playing cards in a nice room like the Borgata, even if I do lose.

I think I was giving many people at my table a little too much observational credit when I decide to raise only $11, I realize this was a really dumb move on the button with so many limpers a raise to $25 would have definitely been the smarter move. I was thinking a raise like that would ring a bell since I hadn't played a hand in over a 20-30 minute period. Of course the raise didn't seem to affect many people anyway, so I will keep all of your tips in mind. I'm sure I will have a few more hands for you guys to analyze in the coming month or so.
