UTG is loose preflop, untricky postflop. I raised from MP1 because I wanted to isolate him, and I got him where I wanted.

full tilt poker
Limit holdem Ring game
Limit: $1/$2
9 players
Converter

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is MP1 with J♣ K♠
UTG calls, UTG+1 folds, Hero raises, 6 folds, UTG calls.

Flop: K♣ J♠ A♣ (5.5SB, 2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets, UTG calls.

Turn: 6♥ (3.75BB, 2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets, UTG raises, Hero calls.

River: J♥ (7.75BB, 2 players)
UTG bets, Hero raises, UTG 3-bets, Hero ?

Do I cap? What does he have that he's 3-betting with?

Hmmm he came alive on the turn. Which would lead me to believe that he either had 66 or Q-10. I couldnt see him having eithir AA, KK surely he would have re-raised pre-flop.

Id go ahead and cap here, these are the hands that you need to extract the most chips from. If you lose its just one of them bad ones,

You know he is going to call you, called you all the way this far. Another bet isn't going to make him fold... So you can bet to extract more from him or just call which either way it is going to be a showdown.

Funny, by the way, how I completely disregarded the possibility of him having QT when I played this hand.

If he is "untricky" as you say then surely he'd be raising the flop with QT.

Then again surely he'd be raising the flop with anything that has you beat by the river too?

It's pretty curious that he comes alive on the turn, a not at all scary card, if he hasn't slowplayed the flop though, so I'm not sure what to think. I think I'll be paid off by A6, JT (or maybe even J6) or (an albeit unexpected) QT often enough here to make capping viable though.

I'm willing to bet he has A6 or possibly 66 as TB mentioned. Either way, it's very doubtful he has you beat, so absolutely cap that bet! Heck, if he's loose pre-flop, he may even have K6, which could explain the check on the flop.

Capping was indeed the way to go. Unfortunately, I didn't.

He turned over QTo, much to my surprise, as I somehow had completely missed the possible straight. I believe my response was, out loud, "ohhhhhhhhh", the sort of disappointed moan when you realize that you've missed something obvious. Disregarding the possible straight, the only hands I could put him on that would warrant being this aggressive was KJ (meant split) or AJ. Not entirely realistic for him to hold AA or KK, I thought, but there was the risk. 66 could have been an option, but the turn checkraise just felt like a slowplayed flop. Had I come up with QT as an option, I would have capped without hesitation.

As a side note, I really feel for the guy. I had only 4 outs to beat him, and I think he played it right.

huh? nono, the question is simply "do I have the best hand here?" I'm counting on him to call if I re-raise him, the discussion was regarding whether or not my hand would hold up more than 50% of the time.
