So heres my most memorable from last night. Playing $1/$2 NL ($40 min/max buy in), and my stack (don't ask me how) is around $300. The only other big stack at the table, around $240, gets to be my villian. He's fairly tight, but hyper-aggressive if he senses weakness, and is known to slow play or overbet nut hands. In short, a maniac, who never plays his hands according to "the book," but makes money because other people do play that way.

He's on my left, and has the button. MP raises to $6 (pretty standard for any decent hand at this table). I'm looking down at [Qd][Qh], and raise to $15 (again, on the table this is the normal raise for "I think I'm better than you"). Villian calls, MP folds.

$39 in the pot.

flop comes [9s][Qs][Jc] . I bet $2 (ie, please raise me), Villain raises to $15, I re-raise to 40,and he calls.

$119 in the pot. I'm sweating. He's giving me the look.

turn comes [Jh], I bet $70, villain goes all-in (around $190).

I know I have the boat, but what's going on?

Given your description of villain it is probably safe to say he could have almost anything

KT, 99, AA, KK, AQ, flush draw, str flush draw, JJ :)( ), etc

What is more important is that it is an easy call, and if you lose you'll know why you hate the game so much :)

There's only one combination of two cards in the deck that beats you (JJ)... so who cares what's going on? Like Welly says there are a bunch of other hands he might have so it's an insta-call.

Ignoring the action so far, the chances he was dealt the two Jacks is about 2500:1 (0.04%). Plus a normal player with JJ would probably push this flop.

you say he doesn't play by the "book", so I put villian on J-9 suited, and call the bet.

Well, he did not re-raise pre-flop, so I am discounting AA and KK. So that basically leaves
A-K spades (nut flush draw)
A-Q (top pair)... badly overplayed
9-9 (Flopped set and turned the full) The type of player you describe would never lay this hand down
J-J (Certainly could of smooth called pre-flop with this hand) I really hope he does not have JJ here:eek:

Basically like everyone else said here it is an Auto-call. Not really worried about "whats goin on". Your not laying this one down. If he does have the JJ then it is a cooler for sure!

i dont see why he would raise all in on the turn if he had quad jacks, i mean i guess you're hooked if you have the boat, but if youre on the str/flush draw he would want you in

You cannot possibly lay this down, only JJ beats you and the odds of that are crazy, even more so with the betting. Why push you out with quads. But you did say he has pushed moster hands before. Still it's a no brainer call. If he sucks out ( which I suspect since you posted it here) then you still made the right play.

to finish...

so yes, I call (obviously), and the b*stard had my hand pegged, he even said "pocket Q" before I flipped them. I'm now in awe of his hand-reading ability, because he nailed me to that call and hung me to dry.

He flips the JJ, and starts begging for the case Q - which he gets on the river!

So I win the pot (which is the biggest I've ever seen on a 2/4 table at this casino), but MORE importantly, I got to be part of my first Quad-over-Quad jackpot. Of course, he walked away with the lion-share of the jackpot ($1200 for the bad beat- compared to losing less than $300 on the hand), but I still got my "bonus" $400 fropm the jackpot too.

And now, thanks to the addition of almost a grand to my bankroll that night, I've decided to play in a one or two of the starter events at the wsop when it comes to the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles in about a month. Not the main event - my entire bankroll isn't that large - but the $300 and $500 early events, maybe. Wish me luck, and I'll let y'all know.

Sounds like a cold deck! Really, that whole hand is just so unlikely... set over set, case jack, case queen...

It's the 6th jackpot I've been on a table for - the 3rd I've been the winner or loser. And yes, every single other jackpot was a board AAA, with one guy holding KK, QQ, JJ or TT, and the other hold A and high kicker.

still, the best one I ever saw (or ran to see once the yelling started), was royal flush over straight flush - on the flop, no less.
AK vs 98 spade, and flop was QJT spade. I don't even want to think about the odds of that happening again in my lifetime. They took the super-jackpot (reserved for any quad beaten by quad A or better), which was five times bigger than the regular jackpot.
The dealer's tip was the entire pot of around $140 - not bad for 60 seconds of work!
Now that I think about it, my $25 tip last night seems a little light - but that particular dealer has taken a fair amount of money from me before when he plays, so I don't feel that bad!
