 :help: :hello:  Here's my situation and hope you all can help. Is it best after you bid and every one else has checked, then next round to just check after I bid before? Does that show a sign of weakness or what. A lot of times I just mix it up to throw others off,but not sure if this is the right thing to do. Could use some of that "Cardschat Advise" from you all. :stupido3: :wavey:

I wasn't meaning when you have to leave etc. things do come up. You guys know what I mean. Thanks

It depends on how many players you are up against, the strength of your hand and what you think the other players have.

If you think they will fold go ahead, though I lose a lot of money doing this when they call me down ;]

Shelynn, if after you've bet/bid everyone checks, you've not bet enough. If you've got 2nd pair for instance and you want to see where you are standing (and hopefully take down pot there and then), then betting the pot won't do anything but sweeten the pot for the eventual winner. There are so many variables as Grumbledook says, that I don't think anyone can give a perfect answer. If you think that someone is on a draw and you have the best hand, then you need to bet enough so calling would be a mistake. And just because someone has checked after leading out betting previous round, doesn't mean they have missed flop - on the contrary, if they have been betting out after missing previous flops (to try and take down pot there and then), then a check could signify a "sneak" play.

Generally though Shellyn, if you initiated the betting originally and got one or 2 "reluctant" callers, then a 2nd bet after flop will often take down pot as it will have missed opponents too. Just make sure you don't overdo it, or become too predictable.

Depens on what game you're playing, too. In no limit, I agree with Rob and G. Make a feeler bet to see where they stand, if you think you may be ahead. If you get called or re-raised, you can always fold. But in limit games, slow play can lose you a lot of money, and a lot of hands. Play straigtforward and bet your strong hands. In limit, it is unreal how many people will pay out all the way to the river on a low odds draw, and sometimes pay off at the river after missing! "Aggresive poker is winning poker" as Mike Sexton says, and it is true. A check after a pre-flop raise does show weakness normally: I will only do it if I flop the absolute nuts, and then only once.

??? Did I write that? Meant to say betting the BLIND, not betting the pot!
