Depens on what game you're playing, too. In no limit, I agree with Rob and G. Make a feeler bet to see where they stand, if you think you may be ahead. If you get called or re-raised, you can always fold. But in limit games, slow play can lose you a lot of money, and a lot of hands. Play straigtforward and bet your strong hands. In limit, it is unreal how many people will pay out all the way to the river on a low odds
draw, and sometimes pay off at the river after missing! "Aggresive poker is winning poker" as Mike Sexton says, and it is true. A check after a pre-flop raise does show weakness normally: I will only do it if I flop the absolute nuts, and then only once.
