Betting too much on flush draw?

These flush draws get me in trouble, maybe this is why.

My bet on the flop is a c bet as much as betting with the flush draw.

Would I be better to check the turn? A 3 has me in trouble and a straight is out there (why he would call my preflop with a 74, I don't know).

I want to bet to keep pressure on, but I wonder if this is correct.

Ideas?

I would have checked on the turn. You're getting a free card since your opponent checked. Thankfully, you won the pot with another bet on the turn.

Flush draw

TheNoob,

I agree with "tlriel" a check would be called for here. Any pair has you behind plus there is a straight draw on the board after the flop. Good luck, I seem to catch a lot of people chasing the flush or straight draw the latter in a tournament it gets. :)

Yeah, I might be one.

I get burned enough doing it, so it's a leak I'm trying to patch (hence my post here looking for advice).

Thanks Gents.

What you do on the turn depends heavily on your reads on your opponent. Mainly what his calling ranges are on the flop and turn and his went to showdown %.

I think it's very much a "it depends" case. I think the double barrel is sexy a lot of the time, but you do need the right villain for it. We do need stats here.

But in general, with overcards and flush outs, you don't need that much fold equity to make this play profitable.

On more thing. There are opponents against which double barreling here is -EV. But even then it won't be a very big mistake.

On the other hand, playing draws passively is a big strategic mistake. So don't listen too much to the passive "i like to see free cards" comments here. :D

A lot depends on your reads of the villian but if you check you are not only getting a free card but giving one as well. since he checked the turn your bet will help define his hand. To me a call or raise here from him would probably mean trips but since he checked the turn to you probably not. Better to bet than give him another card and ou do have outs.

I think a bet here is fine unless the guy is a complete station and wont fold ever. If he does call its not bad because we probably still have 9 flush outs and 6 outs to hit a pair. If you check here and the flush hits, i dont know how much value you are going to get out of 1 pair hands sine its likely to be an over card to their pair and your hand is basically turned face up to some degree.
