Hi guys, here's a hand that I was playing the other day. I felt the preflop and flop play probably weren't outstanding, but I was hoping to get your opinion on what to do on the river. I had a strong feeling that the queen on the river definitely counterfeited my lucky chatch on the turn, as well as that villain probably had an ace.

I checked it down, and lost the pot. Thinking back I was wondering if a bet on the river could have pushed him off? What do you guys think?

Cheers,
M

Fold preflop. UTG min-raise is not something you want to fool around with with junk hand like J6.

Post flop is fine. Betting the river would be spew, imo.

Uh, I like the call. Villain's UTG raise signals a big hand and he's making it cheap for us. Plus its s00ted so it can make more than just 2 pair.

I like every street in this hand.

Thanks Belgo. Will definitely remember to respect UTG-min-raises.

I thought it was a bit interesting how he checked on the river. That Q definitely didn't make him feel comfortable. Any thoughts?

Thanks c9h13no3 :D , yeah I mainly called because it was so cheap. I thought it would just look like I was a loose player who felt it was cheap to have a peek at the flop, and if the flop had come rags i could have taken a reasonable stab at the pot. I think I might have overlooked the UTG-min-raise a little bit and slightly underestimated the strength of his hand.

If he shows you pocket aces, you should call his raise every single time. We want his hand to be ridiculously strong. He's allowing us a very cheap flop, and if we hit, he's not going to be able to fold.

Its called implied odds.

Well on the turn he bets and you raise to 3.75. If a smart player didn't have an ace or a queen he'd fold. Personally I think you raised too much on the turn to not bet on the river. I think you could have pushed him off easier if you bet minimum on the flop. Bet the turn again, and then pushed more on the river. Still, he might call. A lot of people would. I would have folded the J 6 preflop, though. Ugly hand.
