I feel like I could have paid out a lot better had I checked here, and check raised the turn if a high card popped, but its very unlikely that anyone hit anything here, but then again a 5, 8, or T (10 cards at most I know) come up and my hand has very little value, and potential high cards that I want to see are almost as scarce, so to bet or not to bet?

I have only played a few hands at this table, so I don't have much of an image, and while BTN is a total station/fish (already seen him call a cbet on the turn fishing for a gut draw), the rest of the players don't seem willing to get tangled up in too much action, so here goes...

Stacks:
Hero with $25.90
BTN with $19.20
SB with $31.25
BB with $24.90
UTG with $28.95
hand.pl

Blinds: $0.10/$0.25
Site: Pokerstars
Dealt to Hero:5♣ 8♣
Sklansky group 8
Preflop:
1 players fold.
hero raises $0.50 to $0.75
BTN calls [$0.75]
SB calls [$0.65]
BB calls [$0.50]
Total folds this street: 1
Potsize: $3
Flop: 6♠ 9♥ 7♣
SB: checks
BB: checks
hero bets [$1.80]
3 players fold.
Uncalled bet ($1.80) returned to Hero
Hero collected $2.85 from pot
Total folds this street: 3

Looks perfectly fine to me. Definitely not a spot to slowplay - don't let the results throw you off.

Thanks for the quick response, that was kind of how I was feeling, seemed like the right play when I was doing it, but I practically flopped the nuts and got absolutely no action, so of course it was bothering me.

Although Chuck T is a much better player than I am...I don't agree. I think you should have checked like you said to make it seem like you missed the flop and hope for an Ace or King comes up on the turn.

Good thing you raised pre-flop or you wouldn't have gotten anything at all.

Ok, 1st of all...I hate you too ;-)
I am not a fan of slow playing. I have done it and made some money, and I have done it and got my peepee slapped when they drew out on me.
I don't see that you have done anything wrong here

Bet, lalalala.

So many turn cards kill your action, draws to charge, sets will pay you off/get all in on the flop, and you're expected to bet because you raised preflop.

Slow-playing this flop is terrible.

Agree on bet for sure.

1. All the reasons given. This flop isn't drawout proof by any means.

2. It will be fairly tricky really. ;) You raised preflop with two fairly raggy cards. I would assume your bet was a c-bet on something better or perhaps representing a pair. But then i don't know what you play. I bet they didnt really either.

love,

i believe that a bet is the right play, but would maybe bet less for 2 reasons:
1. if you bet less the other players will naturally be more tempted to see one more card if they have 2 overcards

2. by the board it is very unlikely that you will be outdrawn since its rainbow rags, let them see a card cheaply you invite them to hit an overpair, pluss you get at least a little more money in the pot if they call.

3 people called your preflop raise. What kind of hand do you think they have? Let's turn it around. If you have AK on the button or in the blinds and the CO raises, are you ever going to flat call? Why do you want an A or K to hit? This range simply nails the range of a preflop caller, and the fact that there are 3 of them even further increases the chances that one of them hit something. Sets/2-pair/pair+straight draw/etc. are all in the range of a preflop caller. You have a hand, you want to build a pot, so start building it. Also note that a set could be slowplaying here ready to check-raise and would be willing to get it all in here but if you take a turn it may make the board look ugly or worse pair the board and give him the better hand.

25 NL people are more likely to call a preflop raise with A3 offsuit than 67 suited. No joke.

obv. bet for reasons given above, also with being last to act on flop, your c-bet could look like anything and you could get a call, raise, etc. in hopes of getting it allin.

yea this isn't inaccurate. If the cold callers were somewhat decent TAGs then this flop would crush their range and you could get alot of action from sets/2 pair/pair + draw etc, but vs fish you'll obv see alot of crap preflop ranges.

But you still need to play this fast. If somebody actually does have a hand you obviously want as much money in as possible, and a few turn cards will totally kill your action (5 or 8).

Slowplaying accomplishes nothing here. Basically nobody is going to try to bluff the turn in a 4 way pot, and even if they do you aren't getting much value from that. So you could hope a Q or something rolls off and you allow somebody to "catch up" in their mind, but you lose a street of value and again most turn cards are goign to be bricks or even kill action.

Honestly , most times im slow playing just incase , just incase something you dont want to see happens and most times in fulltilt poker the best hand most likely ends up losing .
i would had slow play but the situation you were in would be hard to say but in the end better save than sorry .

its pretty hard .

I prefer to slow play my good hands since most players seem to have read that aggression wins. I can almost always count on action if I check or limp since they read it as weak. Since I'm pretty tight, I find that raising PF just induces more folds and no action.

well if u didnt make a continuation bet after your preflop raise that normally gets people thinking because they would be expecting a follow threw bet so either way i think u played it right
