no problem

You played this just fine after the flop.
You definitely want to raise more PF, though, as this will probably get hands like Q2 suited to fold. The min-raise does nothing except build the pot. Think of raising to at least 4xBB, to get the trash cards out of the flop.
I agree with your bet on the flop - a pot sized bet, because you really prefer to take the pot at the flop rather than see an A or K on the river.

Your opponent goes all-in. Unless you really believe he just hit a set or 2 pair, you have to call. You're most likely facing a hand that thinks it has top pair with good kicker (like AJ, KJ). Against the top pair w/ kicker, you're winning about 80% of the time.

If he has the two pair or trips, well, you don't get the odds to call really.

I've played this level of poker before - and I don't consider it to be poker. Too many people care nothing about the money they are playing with OR with increasing their bankroll - all they are playing for is the thrill, and so they make wild and wacky plays constantly. I wouldn't call your opponent's all-in a bad play if he had the A, but Q-high flush draw isn't an ideal place to semi-bluff. Of course, there are people who do this even on $5/$10 poker, but not so many, and they lose their money a lot faster.

I think you read his hand correctly (or at least valued your hand correctly), figured you were ahead and called. He got lucky on you - but thats part of the game.

Thanks for the reply.I thought I played it ok. I am getting real tired of losing on poker stars.I am going to play a live table maybe sat or sunday.See if I do better. If I win any cash at all then I might start playing bigger tables on poker stars.Maybe ?

All I can say is live tables in my area are 10x more vicious than pokerstars. You'll have guys at the table with 10-20 times the buy-in or more. Especially at lower limits (below $100 buy-in), you'll find the name "no-foldem" appropriate to many tables.

And I would always recommend playing as high a stake as your bankroll permits. Decide now how much money you're really willing to play with. For example, I originally set my bankroll at 1 grand. my rule of thumb is to have at least 300xBB on a game to play it (so, for example, on a $2/$4 table, I would need $1200 to play safely). This lets you ride out the up-and-down nature of the game, and the bad beats that are inevitable. I ended up playing $1/$2 poker for two months before getting the "extra" $200 to play $2/$4.
So set a bankroll for yourself - and play the higlest limit you think is safe for your bankroll, and don't increase your level until your bankroll is large enough to handle some losing sessions.

You have to raise more pre-flop. Remember the 11th Commandment "Thou shalt not make mini-bets, ever."

sometimes it works...

You have to raise more pre-flop. Remember the 11th Commandment "Thou shalt not make mini-bets, ever."

I guess I only ever saw the first 10, then. I still min-raise occasionally, but its a higly situational thing. For example, when i'm fairly new on a table and I flop some unlikely nut, but put my opponent on a monster 2nd best hand. If he bets, I'll min-raise, because it practically begs for a re-raise. my personal example of this was last year. I've got [9s][Js] in the hole, with [7s][8s][Qs][Ts] on the turn. My opponent check-called the flop, and made a 1/2 pot bet on the turn. I'm certain he has the [as] and thinks he's the nuts, so I double his bet, and he pushes all in. then I got to clean him out.

That's one situation I think is appropriate to min-raise. There's a couple of other fairly unlikely situations I'll min-raise on, but as a rule of thumb - I do it maybe one in every 200 hands.

Now the min-bet, on the other hand, is a favorite tool in my arsenal.

It's not so much taking the hand while you can - it's almost a waste of time winning a PF if you're just taking down the blinds and limpers. It's about driving out 90% of the possible hands, so that when the flop does come, you can eliminate most of the combinations possible, and figure out your opponents hand.

For example, say 6 people limp to a flop and it comes down 8 7 2. You're holding AQ. You've probably got the highest ranking cards, but could someone have A8? yes. 2 8? yes. 2 7? yes. 5 6? yes. 9T? yes. you just don't know.

But if you had raised to 5xBB, you'd probably have one or two callers only. And you can be fairly confident that of the above hands, only the A2 and the 9T could be out there, and even those are questionable hands with a 5x raise. You can now bet the flop with a fair degree of confidence that you have the best hand.
