Obviously I sucked out -- but I don't think I was wrong in calling here. This kid was new to the table, and the majority of FTP players are loose donky types. I knew there was a possibility he was holding one of the following hands;

AA, KK, AK,... and maybe even hands like A-10, AJ, AQ, QQ etc... I have to be honest, the way he bet pre-flop makes the red-light go off that he has AA or KK, but I've seen that raise made so many times with AK at these levels, and the same with the other hands listed above too.

I was getting slight odds on my money (probably 1.25:1 or something like that) to call in a pretty big pot with top two pair with an unknown players... I'm absolutely right here, aren't I?...
Please tell me if I'm wrong, and the thinking behind it - just because I won one pot I don't want that to be cause for a leak in my game that will cost me more than it wins.

Your raises were too small - somebody linked you to a min raise thread in another post. You should really take the time to read it - it is very good.

But you had to stay in the hand with AK both paired up. At least I would have - we will see what others say.

What would a good sized raise be here? I made it $.70 (0.05 shy of 3x BB). Should I have made it a dollar?

I see that I did seriously under-bet post flop. I need to start paying more attention to that.

The pre-flop raise wasn't as bad as the post flop raise. Pre-flop I probably would have raised 4x and post flop the same. But there are other players here much better than me - so let's see what they say.

Pre-flop- .75 (make it 3xbb not "just shy") or $1.....

Post flop, if you are going to reraise (and you are with 2pr) I would have made it at least $6 to go....

the problem here is that he flopped trip K's so he's going to get all his money in no matter what...... so I think this hand played itself once you called his reraise pre-flop.....

Once you made the decision to call the reraise, this hand was destined to go the way it did. The flop ensured it would play out just the way it did.

Had you raised bigger preflop, you would only have induced a bigger reraise. He wasn't going away. I agree that the better way to play AK is to raise a bit bigger. In this case there is no way to get him from engaging.

Villain may have made a mistake by not trying earlier to get you out of the hand. What would you have done had he shoved all in after your raise?

I try not to be 'results orientated' as they say. So I know that it didn't matter here, but for future reference I appreciate your advice for how to play it.

Considering I don't know how this guy plays.. and I'd say 75-95% of any random player you see at these levels on FT is a super-donk, I more than likely would've called if he just shoved after the river...
If I was playing with stronger players, and had a feel for how they played, I might actually have the sense to lay down AK post-flop, I might even drop it pre-flop :eek:

Actually, in the same game I was dealt KK and got in a pot against a player I've seen play before.. I raised to $2 pre-flop and he smooth-called, when the ace hit he bet out, and I knew he had it.. he even showed after I laid it down... my friend said "wow, good lay down" I was like "how could you hold onto that?.. it's just a pair of kings"

I can't see folding top two pair on the flop. Yeah, you sucked out but your play was reasonable.
