But I win at least 82% of the time whatever he has. I'm not giving him the chance to make large post-flop mistakes if I raise pre-flop and he folds. He's only something like 2% to flop 2 pair.

What smooth calls $18 with this flop. Either a slow played monster or a drawing hand. If he was drawing the turn had to hit him. I think you need to slow down here and consider check/fold. He got to see a flop for free, he could easily have a 7 or 2 hearts.

Hmm, yep, probably not a good idea to bet this turn. Although it let him draw out because he had JT and made a straight on the river.

Just unlucky. JT is one of the only holdings he could have had that you were ahead of on the turn. I think you were fine in checking this turn. Once the Q hits the river, almost every single possible draw he could have called the flop with have hit (or he had a monster to begin with), and I lean toward checking and folding to almost any bet, as weak as it may seem. Even without the Q, all real draws but the JT are covered, so I probably do the same.

Presumably I'm calling a small bet on the river - if I check and he bets, how big a bet can I call? Is it therefore better to make a small block bet - if so, how small?

you call no bet, what are you expecting to be ahead of here? every draw has hit. this is one of the easiest AA folds i have ever seen, bro

PF raise, regardless

sorry, I gotta go with the PF raise - not that it'll help against JT (because he'll call you on any modest raise), but it would of helped eliminate a lot of the possible hits on the flop.

On the flop, when he raised you - I would push here. It's incredible overkill, but with 3/5 of a straight and 2 cards for the flush already out, I'd be happy winning whatever I could right here.

In any case, once that turn card came, I think you're smoked - the fact that he made it on the river doesn't really matter. There's just too many chances to be beat here, and I'd be checking down (calling only modest bets) and hoping he did something crazy like keeping TPTK on the flop.
