Game was on carbon at 100nl table. this was probably my 6th or 7th hand on the table and my first hand played. Button had been in one limped pot but did not play after the flop

I have :ac4::as4:
Raise to $4.00 folds to button who calls 9.50 in pot.

Flop comes :kh4::qh4::4c4:

I lead out with a bet to $8.00, button instaraises to $16.00.

What is my best play here??
Obv there is flush draw, straight draw, trips.......just kinda lost. Being oop just sux.

I make the call and learn from it. As well, it gives me some info. Would be nice to have stack sizes for future betting in this hand however.

Considering he is a tight player, and he called a $4 preflop raise I think I would have to lay the hand down, you are correct on your read, he either has a set, or he could be drawing out on you. There is also the possiblity that he has 2 pair on the flop. I think I would have to lay the hand down.

The famous depends here. What are the stack sizes? If you are comfortable in
doing so then a call to see the turn could be an option. It would only cost you $8 to see it. Then reevaluate it on the turn.

I don't think you can fold on the flop for just $8 more. Your ahead of AK or a draw trying to get a free turn card. It is hard to say if you should raise or not with out more info. Shorthanded or full ring? Stack sizes? But I think just calling and seeing what happens on the turn would be the best play with no read. Maybe raising to see where your at could be a good play also but with no real read I don't know if this does any good if they just call. Hard to say with the limited info.

you didn't provide stack sizes which is bad but whatever. I would call here. AK, AQ and KQ also 44, QQ and KK (but those are more remote against an unknown as the KK and QQ likely would have raised) are certainly in his range to call on the button to a raise. Of course of the three most likely holdings, two you are ahead of here so you certainly can't give up the hand yet. You could 3bet the flop but if you do you are playing for stacks at this point and I don't think you want to do that right now.

Sorry ....stack sizes we are both sitting at 100bb, think he might have had a few more $ than me but we are both at full stacks.

My dilemma tbh was whether to just call or raise. With two hearts obv he could have a heart draw with the ace of hearts. But if I raise and he calls, I think I am pretty much done with the hand.

Without a read on the guy - I'd need to fold. Mostly because if I call I'm not even sure what I want. Obv, a heart or a str8 card on the turn make the decision easier... but even if it bricks and he bets (which he should) I have to fold. I guess I could float and hope for a non-heart 4 or a check behind. But you just sat down. Fold and play a few orbits to get some sense of the opps. (I always try to do avoid big hands early in the session unless I'm very strong).

I would re-raise him, if he's already flopped two pair on you then too bad, but there are many hands you can beat, like a flush draw, AK or KJ. The instaraise is a bit suspicious as well, if he had a set he'd probably need more time to think about the play (whether to call then bet on the turn or raise) so I don't think he has a set. I'm putting him on AK here, but a flush draw is possible.

def his stack size is a big issue for me if he can put you eating beanie weenies then fold or just make one call to see if he slows down any other then that you will eventually have his money

I'd put him on a heart draw or two pair. It's not real likely he's got AK because you're holding two A's in your hand. It's more likely he's got KQ, 78H, or could have trip 4's. Could have KcJh...I would probably push here if I were you but definitely make the call.

I agreed with you bbb.

I did call and the turn was the::6h4:

I checked, he checked.

River was the::7c4:

I checked
He checked:

and turned over :kd4: :7c4: for two pair.

I guess my question was could I have played this differently and of course after seeing his cards I wish I had re-raised the flop. But, I think with the information I had available, I guess I minimized my losses with this hand. Hope in the future he continues to call my raises with that type hand
