Was at the casino yesterday playing $1/2NL, tell me how you would have played this better, I know I made a mistake letting him draw.

It's a real loose table, people calling preflop $10 raises with 6,5o

I'm on the SB with A spades,J spades, 3 players limp, I raise to $15. BB folds, EP calls, everyone else folds, heads up him and I.

Flop: 9, A, 5 rainbow.

I, decide to see if a check raise will work. I check and he checks. ...darn he gets a free card.

Turn: J

I should have bet more, I don't know why I didn't, I bet $15 he calls

River: 10

I bet $30, he thinks about it and seems to hesitate, then he calls my $30 and flips over

Q, 8o

How do you bet a hand like this?

Well I if I bet preflop I am going to bet post flop to define my hand. If someone wants to chase and catches a hand that is tough luck. I also would have bet after the flop with a straight possiblity.

I dont think AJ is a check raising hand. Id bet out flop.

Its pretty hard for someone without an ace to bet out at an ace high flop against preflop raiser.

And if he did bet out, then theres chances he has an ace, and the only reasonable ace you could beat is Ace 10, so youll often be check raising AQ and AK which are stronger hands.

Now as it turns out this all means nothing and the guy played Q8 lol.

But i still think you should have bet flop. If you had flopped a set or 2 pairs at flop, then maybe check raising would make sense sometimes to me.

But even then its not my fav move when im the preflop raiser

Unless you happened to know from the beginning of the hand which two cards your opponent held, you shouldn't tell us. Differently put: Please don't include results.

Well your check on the flop worked out pretty well. You got him to call another $15 on the turn to win $50 while drawing to to 4 outs. You want your opponent to call on the turn, for the wrong price. Sucks that he hit on the river and took another $30 off you, but 92% of the time you'd win $50. 8% of the time you lose. This just happened to be that 8% so don't worry about it.

Most people will tell you to bet bigger on the flop to get draws to fold, but they're wrong.
