9 handed $50 NLHE
I have $49.50 and am 2 from the CO, I have Ac Qd. Folds to me and I raise to $2.00 then it folds to the SB who raises to $3.50 and I call pot=$7.50. The flop comes 5d As 5s and he checks, I bet $3.75 and he calls pot=$15. The turn is the 3c and he checks again so I bet $7.50 then he raises to $15.00 and he has another $15.00 left and I folded. With his raise the pot was $36.00. Also a hand or two earlier I had seen him call an all-in with 4-1 pot odds on a gutshot straight draw and miss. What'd you guys think?

Hmm...tough one....Possible holdings AA i doubt....JJ to KK possible...also AK.....The Reraise pre really makes me think JJ to KK........especially when he flat calls after the flop.... and also when he checks and reraises after you bet half pot showing a little weakness on your part after turn.....I would call.

I think you have to make this call. We are getting better than 5:1 and the only hands that are beating you right now are AA, AK, and any 5.

What hands reraise preflop with a 5? NONE

AA and AK either lead or check/raise postflop.

This looks more like AJ/AT/KK/QQ/JJ type hands that don't believe that you are this strong.

FYP

So you put him on a set? I put him on a mid to upper pair. I think with a reraise you push him out of this.

Before dubbing this guy insane with regards to the gutshot all-in, I'd need more info. Did he call all-in on the flop? Did he have an overcard with the gutshot? If it was on the flop and he had an overcard, it's perfectly sensible to call all-in getting 4:1. Even without the overcard, it's not far off correct to call.

Would this guy put his whole stack in if he hit with AJ or AT? Would he slowplay them if he hit? Would he min-reraise preflop out of position with those hands? Some players might. Most won't.

IMO, if you're not sure, you should fold. I'd figure a best case chop here. His line through the whole hand REALLY looks like AA or maybe AK. KK-JJ would be total bizarro plays.

Is betting the turn really the best option?

I bet on the turn because I didn't want to let him draw to a better hand. If the board shows 3 flush or straightens, what am I gonna do if he bets the pot or something? Call with top pair and feel like an idiot if he shows a flush? He was playing loose after all, calling a gutshot like that and no he didn't have over cards. I just felt like if he wanted to play crazy I'd let this one go and wait for a better spot. Although looking back on it I wish I'd shoved. I think his range was much wider than AA/AK and he could've easily been making a frustrated/LAG raise having his pocket tens/jacks/queens/kings outdrawn on. Not just but just my retrospective opinion on the hand, especially with 5-1 pot odds... Oh well, live to fight another day.

I'm a bit late in returning to this thread, but this was my point:

This is a WA/WB situation. Unless you're playing a donk, you're not going to manage to stack him when you're ahead, but your hand is also not strong enough that you WANT to play for stacks because most of the time that all the money goes into the middle, you will be the dog.

Keep the pot small. Check the turn. The free card that you risk giving is not that disastrous. Sure, he might have a flush draw, but how many hands that contain two spades would he really 3-bet with preflop? KQs? And the straight possibilities?

FP nailed it. You have a hand with shodown value but you want to get there as cheaply as possible. Pot control is key here so I think checking the turn is a good play.

I dont see why some are saying AA is unlikely. Its extremely likely imo.

Unless i have some reason 2 put him on an elaborate bluff, id fold too. But FP makes a very gd point about checking turn. With the ace out there were not getting value from a lot of hands we beat.
