I think the answer lies in a meta-game perspective, not in this particular hand. Think of it this way: This is a "loose ultra aggressive player" who's on your immediate right. What kind of hands do you expect to win his money with? I'm going to suggest that it's with successful traps when you hold monsters.

This is not a trap, and this is not a monster. The pot is still small. Let it go. If you give up the best hand (you very well might) you're not losing a lot anyway. If he's on a draw (which is the most realistic hand you can "hope" for) you have no implied odds. If he has you beat, you're going to have to pay a lot to find out.

Let it go.

Had this been a limit table, I'd probably get this hand to showdown against this player, but in no-limit I wouldn't.

By your meaning of monster, I hope it's 2 pair or better against an Ultra LAG. Cause straight and flush is hard to come by sometimes. Not to say that I'm impatient, but I'd hate to give way every single time.

I've been thinking... Suppose I'm holding A9o this time, made top pair against said LAG. same play? Fold to the re-raise?

You have top pair with no kicker, this is a really easy fold, you threw out a probe bet on the flop and got your answer. The thing with $10 NL is that the VAST majority of your plays are value bets/trap bets, getting fancy is really not a good idea because a lot of the time youll simply get called down.

I fold here and wait for a better oppertunuty.

Raise more on flop and fold to a 3-bet.

Agreed, that's the first thing that stood out to me when I replayed that hand. I might have picked the pot right there and then, had I showed more strength.

Gotta fix this min-raising habit of mine.

wow i think raising this flop is horrible. you have top pair with a pair of 9's and no kicker. if he's that loose/bad just call him down. the only reason you would ever raise here is to induce a 3 bet and call it. not to raise/fold to 3bet

The whole point to raising on the flop, is to gather more information. That will make my decision easier on the later street. I don't see how horrible my play is. In this case, I called and folded on the turn to a pot size bet.

I don't think villain holds anything that beats me, but I'm not willing to risk my stack(however small it is) on a top pair, no kicker to find out. He's probably on a draw or middle pair.

"raising for info" is generally pretty bad ESPECIALLY vs a player like you describe. just think about it. if you knew someone was "raising for info" wouldnt you do everything you could to "inform" them that its time to fold if you had air?

Yes, Provided he KNEW that I was raising for info. The whole point is to inform him that I have a real hand at the same time. He chooses to re-raise, telling me that he's got a better hand and that's it, I'm not sticking around to find out.
