Sorry no hand history on this one...Im going off memory and wil try to get it as close as possible. :)

.02/.05 NL Full Ring

My impression of villian is that he's a bit of calling station...he limps in on most hands and has shown about 6 hands since he sat down 20 hands ago. 2 of these were flush draws where he chased despite bad pot odds...

My image is tight...possibly even a nit becuase I really havent gotten any cards to look at lately...although I don't think villian would be the type to notice.

Villian is MP1 with $3.50
Hero is CO with $12.00

Dealt to Hero (Jh, Jd)

UTG calls
MP1 calls
Folds to CO
Hero bets .25
Button fold.
SB fold.
BB fold.
UTG fold.
MP1 calls.

Pot is .62

Flop (Js, 7s, 2h)
Villian checks.
Hero bets .30
Villian calls. (after a long pause)

Turn (3s)

MP1 checks.
Hero ???

When I flopped top set I didnt want to scare him off so I put in a bet of about half the pot. When he called my impression was that he was on a flush draw. When the flush card hit the turn I'm not sure what to do.

Checking behind seems pretty weak and betting into him feels like I'm throwing more money into his made flush. Thoughts?

He could have all kinds of hand that aren't the flush that will play this way like 99, or AJ, AK if he is weak passive.

Bet bigger on the Flop, if he is a flush chaser he will pay .50 to chase it. I bet 2/3 on the turn and call a shove, I will almost never fold a set at 5nl because so many times villians show up with crazy Shizz that I would rather pay the occasional players who have it than risk making a bad fold with a big hand.

If you have a big hand you want to build a big pot, simple as that. If the fish has a hand that he thinks is good enough to continue with, he's going to call regardless if its 1/3 pot or full pot. You want to bet more to exploit his mistake of calling too much. Bet for value on the turn, make your bet closer to a pot sized one, I'd be willing to play for stacks. If he does show up with a flush here you still have outs to improve. But he's going to call with much worse than that.

Yeah...it felt really weak when I checked behind.

So here's the continuation...

Hero checks turn.

River (8s)
Board is now (Js, 7s, 2h, 3s, 8s)

MP1 pushes all in for his remaining $2.75 or so...

Hero???

I did fold...

But in looking back I think it's probably -EV to not bet the turn.

Thanks for the replies.
