I don't really see any reason to raise flop here. You have TP 2nd Kicker and the 2nd nut flush draw. By raising you fold out everything you beat and keep hands that have you crushed in. Looks like a wa/wb spot. As played, I fold the turn. This is a set like always vs a nit I think.

Set. You can fold now. Why raise the flop?

OK basically wanted to confirm what I thought from everyone. I guess I was thrown off by the donk bet and felt an inferior hand was betting into me, so I raised. The 3bet was an alarm bell.

He showed 22! Which makes his flop play mind blogging and his turn luck ridiculous.

My read just by betting pattern is he has a set as well.

He tried to limp in UTG with 33 or 44 wanting to see a cheap flop. You raised and he called - then the flop came and looked really ugly for a set and he wanted to get the money in before you could make a flush.

Occasionally he might have a similar hand like A9 with the 9 of spades. Keeping this pot small and getting to show down rather cheaply would be my hope here, raising the flop doesn't allow you to see a cheap showdown.

Think like the other player if you had a set and someone raised the flop you'd think they had AK or similar with the K of spades. He might even think you have a flush, but can't lay his set down hoping to pair the board. Either way the post saying way ahead or way behind is 100% spot on. I personally might not fold if I can see the river cheaply.

I posted before you gave away the info, but this is a very funny and odd hand. Did he have the duece of spades? If he did - his thinking was he had a double draw to the 5 or any spade. Seeing a cheap flop you would have lost the hand, but at least you wouldn't have lost much.
